I love these guys too... so who do we make the check out to (Jablet donations?), or when are we buying the Jablet folks a couple rounds of beer?
Count me in! I'd contribute in cash or in kind because this the kind of work that makes the tablet truly functional! Now, the contacts tab is actually functional. With the addition of the sip phone, it is almost the complete package.
I'm having a little trouble using the server, but my issues seem to be restricted to the yahoo transport. I get logged in ok, and my buddies propagate to the tablet, and i can receive messages from them, but they can't see anything i type to them. Anyone else seeing anything like that? or have a suggestion about where to look next?

Send me a message on Jabber (jay@jablet.org) and we'll sort it out.
Actually, I think I am seeing this too.
Anybody sending me a message, please don't do it through Yahoo.
Tex, if you set up a business account you can set up multiple logins. It only costs if you accept credit card payments.
Well, I tried that and it got complicated.
Paypal is producing mixed signals. They say a customer can have 2 accounts, one personal and one business, but when I tried to set that up I could only see the option to upgrade my personal account to business. So I assumed my personal account goes poof, and I only have the business account. So much for 2 accounts.
So I tried creating a new one from scratch. Everything worked until I got to the bank account part. The paypal wizard let me create the new account and THEN informed me that I could not use the bank account I'd entered (same as my personal). So if this account stays active, I'd need another bank account.
Arg.
So perhaps I could establish another bank account, if I can find one with zero fees, but it would definitely need to be international, due to the multiple access need.

My business account doesn't have a bank account associated to it, because I just use it to pay for my tektonic hosting. We have clients either put money straight into it, or I transfer the money in myself from my personal paypal account. It works so far, it just says the account is unverified.
I wish Paypal was better at communicating how to do that. Last night I was too tired to sleuth it out. Maybe later today.
I'm starting the think the best thing would be for me to buy the beer when y'all come down to Austin!
In fact, since I am in the restaurant biz, I'll treat you to a meal if you make the trip! I can't mention the name of the restaurant here, of course, but it's a good one, I assure you...worth the trip!
I know, this may only be realistic for Texrat, but Zerojay, if you're ever down this way, you too are assured of a treat!

I know a few people in Austin... maybe they know what restaurant you're running.
I'd love to come down there and visit someday. Haven't been much further south than Nashville though.
So, I have a question that I'm guessing you guys would be able to answer. For years I've avoided Jabber to IM services simply for two reasons. One, the jabber server will now have my IM password for which ever services I use (yahoo, MSN, etc), and that its now in the position to sniff all of my traffic as well. Now I realize that when I'm sitting in a coffee shop on wifi said sniffing can occur. But it always bothered and greatly concerned me to have a jabber server in the middle like that. I've done security for a long time and never imagined inviting someone to be the 'man in the middle' attack.
I also realize that all of the major services probably keep logs of all the chats as well. But still, it just seems a bad idea to readily give up my passwords to something like this. Or am I missing the point?
