Hi all,

How do I install libspeex?

Only had my n900 a couple of weeks, running fremantle / pr1.3 / ?. Still new to this.

I attempted to install extra decoders, as i wish to watch a video, it complains :
missing : gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-extra
missing : libspeex1(>= 1.2~beta3-1)

Spent a day hunting around for that gstreamer plugins bad extra... and eventually gave up.

Decided instead to try VLC... pleased with myself that I actually got to a point where I could attempt to install VLC... BUT... same problem.

missing : libspeex1(>= 1.2~beta3-1)

/usr/lib teases me with a libspeexdsp but no libspeex1

I managed to track down a libspeex1 here : http://maemo.org/packages/view/libspeex1/

It seems to be in 4 repositories, none of which I seem to have. I'm not even sure if that's the correct library, it kinda looks right. But how do I get that onto my n900? How do I add those repositories?

Please someone help, all I want to do is install this library.

Thanks

ok...
I managed to get vlc installed... Not quite sure how. For any poor souls reading this in the distant future having spent hours scrolling through useless pages of google (me next week), struggling with this random dependency madness, here's what I might have done :

disabled extras devel, updated
command line : apt-get -f install
apt-get install vlc-player (having already added vlc rep) -- for some unknown reason it doesn't care about libspeex1 now.

I'm now I'm uninstalling vlc as it is absolute rubbish and I'm 1 step closer to chucking this thing against a wall.

Thanks.. but I tried.

Package libspeex1 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that blah blah blah blah...

I think I might attempt to somehow install gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-extra again, for some reason it thinks libspeex1 is installed? well it doesnt show up as unmet dependancy now, odd.

Does anyone know how I can install gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-extra? (I've tried apt-get install... "not available... referred to by another package... missing... obsolete... another source... no installation candidate")

wish me luck

That is strange because i thought this library came preloaded in n900. You can take a look at here for manual download

http://maemo.org/packages/view/libspeex1-dbg/
