Err ... what ?
I always use only the GUI for updating, and now you tell it doesn't work properly ?
What a piece of sh*t.

OK, I just apt-get upgrade everything I could, and next upgrade using GUI worked well. Thanks for the hint !

Maemo is really a perverted debian system.

ok guys so I ran apt-get update, then apt-get install mp-fremantle-community-pr....I reset the n900

and the apps menu when I turn my n900 changes to portrait mode, nice..but thats the only thing that can change into portrait mode!! neither the media player nor file manager change to portrait mode!

I ran apt-get remove libqt4-maemo5-*
then I used again apt-get install mp-fremantle-community-pr but that command installs libqt4-maemo5 again

does anyone knows what is going on in here??

it is not real portrait mode if anything but the app menu changes to portrait mode!

if you watch this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Maw7O...eature=related

you can see that the media player and the file manager can work in portrait mode but in my n900 only the app menu works in portrait mode, everything else runs on landscape mode

what is wrong with my n900? :'(

Most applications don't support portrait mode properly. That's why the "forced portrait mode" option is not default, and is intended purely for testing purposes. A future version will have a whitelist of which applications do support portrait mode (but don't set the proper flags to say they do) and will allow those to auto-rotate by default.

I rarely use the GUI for updates....though I like the fact I get notifications when there is one. Mostly.

My advice is to use command line >

root
apt-get upgrade

and just let it do its stuff.

Personally I think its amazing that a single command can download, unpack, install and setup every update available.

// anyway nice to see the community updates coming - thank you

Hi. After having the same problem with maemo 5 community ssu package update (conflict with libqt4* packages) I have followed the suggestion to do
root
apt-get upgrade
But something went wrong, I think, because after it has finished I decided to reboot.
But the phone does not want to do it. It starts with NOKIA logo/sign and then black screen with just back-light.
Seems backup menu is working.
If someone is able to advise me what to do I will be very happy.
