Launch normal Debian with Easy Debian scripts

I Installed Easy Debian, but I cannot do everything I wish, since some libs and progs are conflicting when installing (g++, libc6, etc.).

So, I installed a "normal" Debian on an external ssd, and I can chroot to it, install progs and even compile.

The problem is, I cannot get the focus for typing in X apps (the letters go to the terminal).

I have read somewhere it is possible to launch this Debian using easy-debian scripts, but I cannot figure how to do this.

    Any idea ?

    Thanks

You can do this by making copies of the scripts that are installed as part of easy chroot and easy debian and modifying them to point to your install.

dpkg -L <pkg_name> will show you the files installed per each easy-* package.

For keyboard focus, you will probably need to copy some of the files from the actual easy-debian install image as I don't think they are standard in debian.

Start by reviewing how the scripts work. Start with the 'debbie' script and trace how it works. It calls qchroot and some other easy-chroot scripts. You could make copies of all these and modify them for your needs.

This is how I ran my plain Lenny install myself.

I don't have my N900 with me at the moment, but those were the steps I took to get it going the way I wanted.

In fact, I find it easier to run vncserver from the Debian image and then use PresenceVNC to get a bigger desktop running on the N900 itself.

It would probably be easier to learn how to modify apt sources and how to install particular versions of libraries in Debian to modify your Easy Debian install. Anything in "regular" Debian can be installed in Easy Debian, you just might break the tight integration with Maemo. But if you "just" want to compile apps, then you don't need much of the custom stuff...
