Is it maybe because I need to use a special mmc-mobile reader rather than the SD reader?

I'm trying to copy files on my mmc card (kingston 2G mmc Mobile).
I plug it into an SD card reader
Hook it up to a Ubuntu system (SuSE 10.1 for some reason cannot see it at all).
FlashDisk appears, is auto-mounted, and I can read files in it.
FlashDisk is write protected, though, and for the life of me, I was unable to change this.
Was also unable to format the card.
Anyone got any ideas?
Is it maybe because I need to use a special mmc-mobile reader rather than the SD reader?
From the lack of threads on the subject, I presume there is something simple I'm missing in all this.
Thanks
