The totally opposite thing used to happen to me.
IE: a friend sent me a single sms, then that same SMS got delivered to my phone every 30 minutes to 1 hour with the same date and time as the original SMS.
I recieved at least 15 of those.
It happened once more from a different sender but this time the SMS was delivered to my phone just 3-4 times.
Something similar happened with a SMS notification from my bank but the time stamp was correct so i can't exclude that there was a mess in my banks system and they've send me dozens of SMS.
