Hi, in x-terminal
This commands creates a log, named maxcpu.log. Send me the result (file maxcpu.log).
Code:
root cd /home/user/MyDocs dpkg -l > maxcpu.log ls -l /usr/lib/hildon-desktop >> maxcpu.log ls -l /usr/share/applications/hildon-home/ >> maxcpu.log more /usr/share/applications/hildon-home/maxcpu.desktop >> maxcpu.log

From a quick look, I think you need to install the latest version (0.1.8-4 in extras-testing) or changing some lines in the file:
/usr/share/applications/hildon-home/maxcpu.desktop

In the new versions the changes in maxcpu.desktop are already set.
After changes, reboot.
If the problem still, send me new maxcpu.log
p.s: add "&" at end of command permit you to close the x-terminal
python /usr/lib/hildon-desktop/maxcpu.py &
