convenient and simple: if you are downloading an avi video, or any file, you view the video while it's downloading.


in other words: the writing operation DONT LOCK the reading operation, so you can read a file while it's being writed

thats a KILLER feature for me. really useful.

You can even delete the file while you're viewing it and it will continue playing

X ssh forwarding. You can tunnel the whole desktop or separate windows through ANY port...

Keep windows from resizing my music library's album artwork down to 200x200 (without asking!!!) just because ms thinks it works best for wmp & wmc.

Gaming. It may be slower than on windows when running windows games, but you can do desktop compositing+virtual desktops(Compiz) and be able to flip screens with no loading/waiting. So. Frigging. Useful.

There are non-Linux Debian ports like Debian GNU/kFreeBSD or Debian GNU/Hurd.
You can also run apt on OSX with Darwinports or Fink, and there are even some projects working on bringing it to Windows.

Well, technically you're right, but..
I doubt dist-upgrade on OSX or Windows is comparable to what it can do on Debian?
FreeBSD.. fine, but is there any point running apt on it?
And Hurd then.. ok, you can run apt on it, but can you do anything else useful ?
