Here, as Beefy6969 and BanditRider said, you will have to type in / use the information in all the three lines
" Repository: http://maemo-hackers.org/apt
Distribution: mistral
Component: main "

exactly as shown, otherwise the Tablet Application manager will not refresh. This specific step has to be repeated for each of the repository that you wish to use for GAIM.

If you wish to use another Software Module from Maemo, you will have to follow the same information details mentioned in their installation directions.
Simply think of this as a good learning experience.

Good luck.

OK Thanks, that worked ... a wasn't aware that the distro and component lines were important.

One more question from a newb. How do I tell how much memory I'm using, and have left?

Go to Tools / Control Panel / Memory. It will tell you the ' Device memory ' and the ' MMC Card ' memory used / left.

I had the same problem. When you are installing from the repositories, let it fully download all the software. Do not cancel the download until it is finished.

You should uninstall gaim and reinstall it again.

You need to have a good list of repositories, since it's there where apt-get looks for the needed packages. Here you've got a list that's is enough:
http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ead.php?t=4456

It's not necessary for you to update all of them.

The steps mentioned by 'Beefy6969' are the exact and really simplified steps, required to install Gaim on a Nokia 770. Each of the repositories mentioned should be typed exactly as it is ( exactly, as in all three lines ). These repositories install, all the required files necessary to use Gaim.

This should not be drastically different for N800. Of course for the N800, it will be ' bora ' that you use in the 'Distribution' field. MaemoWiki explains the codename standards for different Nokia OSes.

Please learn how to use Application Manager, how to add new repositories, and how to update them.

If everyone else was as confused, then so many of us who have Gaim installed and use it, would never have been able to do that.

Nokia should really provide some kind of manual for this thing..eventually with some effort you can learn repositories..application mgr..blah blah..but it would have been easier with some straightforward direction from the gitgo-most of us that want an internet tablet like this need a useful tool and don't have the time that it takes to get the N800 up to speed..with some good directions it's not hard..the hard part was where to find a forum such as this
