that may be true for the US mobile market, but i am not sure its true for the global market. Still, when it comes to tech, most places, excepting japan and taiwan, seems to look towards USA no matter if the tech is superior or inferior. If the US tech press declares it good, then is "must" be good for the rest of the world also...

I completely agree with you on that account. That and they also have pretty good customer service (something Nokia and other companies, even Google needs to learn from). Though some things like their placement of the water sensor detectors on the iPhone bugs me. Really? It's near the headphone jack? I understand all companies put them in there to prevent people who dropped their phone in water from using the warranty to get a new device. But the one in the iPhone that's near the headphone jack bugs me, it seems sweat could get in there if your exercising.

So when Apple will buy Nokia? Who knows me might, one day, have an iPhone N900 run on Meego/iPhone OS, with all the things that geeks could dream about.

@Laughing Man: I'm not familiar with the water sensor issue. Is that the only water sensor inside the device? Perhaps they have a few near the openings to determine the point of entry (of liquid) in case of water damage?

I agree with your comment about their customer service. My personal experience with their customer service has been quite good, they tend to be on the 'lenient' side when you have issues with the product.

@jules.tartonpillon: When Apple acquires a company, they extract the company's strengths and assimilate them into Apple's singular product portfolio... I'm afraid there's zero chance of meego running on any of apple's device even if the far-out Nokia buy-out scenario plays through..

Anyhow, the main problem is that: Although Apple works hard to make designs that appeals to their customers and maintain their satisfaction level; >90% of the users of this forum does not belong in that subset. We are not their target userbase.

Sensationalist headline, but it's one of the first ones I found after clicking around after a "water sensor iPhone" Google search. Basically it seems that Apple has several water sensors in the iPhone (well I think more like 2-3) [they also have a patent pending on it I think -_-] that they say is used to tell where the water comes from. One being near the headphone jack. But the problem is some people are accidentally triggering them and some Apple stores will sometimes void the warranty due to water damage despite the internal water sensor not being triggered.

I brought that up since it's one of the few things I think is a problem with Apple customer service (well besides the natural variation you'll find in any customer service company where some CS people are just jerks).

in the same way that depending on when and where you fly, the price goes wild? So that routing via a different nation, and maybe staying a night will get a overall lower trip price?

Yeah. For cases like this, I think you just need to try out your luck at their 'genius bars' and not open any case tickets so you can try it at other outlets if the first one doesn't work out =P

I notice that there are quite a large selection of '3rd party repair shops' too that caters to out-of-warranty Apple products. I guess that's one of the 'advantage' of popular devices that comes in limited model/configuration. It's cheaper to provide support for them (due to less spareparts to stock, fewer configurations to understand, etc).

This is a rule of supply and demand.
If there is a high demand and low on supply, the price goes up.
