I have an update to t0n1's excellent tutorial, it builds on the foundation:
1) Install Nothing
2) Open mediaplayer, play avi file
Watch in full screen on the touchscreen!
Thanks to t0n1 for pointing us in the right direction.
If you'd like to continue with the t0n1 approach, consider that mplayer does not pay attention to the advanced codec pack, and you do not need kmplayer to install mplayer to use it as a backend in mediabox

media player will play fullscreen, the black lines depend upon the aspect ratio of the video compared to the screen. if you have taken a video with a wider aspect ratio than the n900's screen and removed the black lines then you've either skewed it out of proportion or cut off the sides by zooming in. i'd rather deal with the lines tbh.

dont call others noob if you are here the threads noob.
you dont have to install 10 mediaplayers the default one plays everything you want.
if you want and need it fullscreen just convert it in the right format.
use for this the search function and you will gonna be happy.

Just use sib.....it has an option for full screen stretched...It plays avi, rmvb, mkv (I have only tried these)...
