I recently bought mine from Amazon... a Rev 2204 (cat /proc/cpuinfo).
It won't overclock past 750MHz no matter what voltage settings I use (from the given templates in /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/).
The very instant it hits 805MHz, it crashes and reboots. I must have one of the 10% I read about... yours may be similar. The ideal example config has an upper limit of 850MHz, so easily beyond mine's capabilities, and possibly beyond yours.

Oddly enough, I can use much lower voltages at 750MHz and it remains stable. 25% overclock is nothing to sneeze at.

This is my current config:
Code:
Nokia-N900:/home/user/.kernel# cat mine
# kernel configuration file generated by /usr/sbin/kernel-config
MINFREQ=250
MAXFREQ=750
FREQS="0:25,90 250:25,180 500:33,360 550:38,400 600:38,430 700:45,430 750:45,430 805:48,430 850:48,500 900:54,500 950:54,500 1000:60,500 1100:72,520 1150:72,520 "
SMARTREFLEX_VDD1=0
SMARTREFLEX_VDD2=0
GOVERNOR=ondemand
IGNORE_NICE_LOAD=1
UP_THRESHOLD=75
SAMPLING_RATE=150000
POWERSAVE_BIAS=0

You can choose among default, lv, ulv, xlv and ideal.

I would recommend you to try lv, then default (ulv, xlv and ideal are equal* up to 900).

Of course it will drain more battery, and wear down the processor faster, but, at least the phone will be more likely to work.

AND of course you can always try lower mhz too...

default sucks more battery than lv
default>lv>ulv>xlv>ideal

kernel-config load lv(ideal/ulv/xlv/default)
kernel-config limits lowerlimit upperlimit(like kernel-config limits 250 600)
kernel-config save p1(any name u want )
kernel-config load p1(every time u reboot)

Well i installed QCPUFreq and pushed it to 1150, opened a couple apps and no problems, no reboots. Could it be just ideal causing problems?

I don't believe QCPUFreq adjusts voltages... while the "ideal" profile lowers the voltages considerably (while raising the max clock), so you're running at the stock voltages.

Sounds like you've got one of the rare ones that absolutely screams.
Congrats!

stock voltage but increased clock speed?
is that a problem?

just had a random reboot, think it was on 805 or 850mhz from qcpufreq, no problems and then i heard the 'click' noise with the banner saying it had an unexpected reboot and custom kernel settings were not loaded

after the reboot i did kernel-config load lv, seemed ok so loaded xlv, so far so good, haven't OCed yet so it's max 600, but it seems ok with the voltages.

edit: ok, set limit to 850 on xlv and it rebooted, on 750 now and it is still working. why will it work on QCPUFreq but not from x-term, given it handles the voltages at clock speed fine?

Probably because you're lowering the voltages when using the CLI.
Try adjusting the max after loading default profile.

I was playing with this last night and learned that mine will do any speed up to 750, plus 900, 1000, 1100 with xlv voltage settings. However, if I hit any of 805, 850, 1050 or 1150, it would instantly crash and reboot! Very strange!

What do you mean when using the CLI?

Is it a problem to increase the clock speed but not the voltages, like QCPUFreq does?

Not at all, unless you want to save as much battery as possible.
