The easiest way is not to install a version past .377 and just use the original macchanger method, i have the .deb for .377 if anyone is interested...just uninstall the newer version and install the old one.

No need to have an old .deb to revert to any previous version:

apt-cache policy map

to see the available versions of map in the repository and

apt-get install map=2.2.6.377-1

to install the .377 version

Yes you can!

The only drawback is that Application Manager (and apt-get upgrade) will want to update Map to the latest version whenever you are searching for new updates. Of course you can ignore this. You don't really have to update map.

I believe there is a way to tell Application Manager (and apt-get) that you don't want to check for updates of Map. For apt-get I know that it can be done by modifying a configuration file inside /etc/apt/.

I will look into this and get back to you if I have anything new.

yeah...i know you dont have to update...if you could find out how to tell application manager not to look for an update to map that would be great!

Try

Code:
$ root
# echo map hold | dpkg --set-selections
Or use Pinning.
