2 reasons dave....
1 - It's juuuust big enough at 9ft 1000lb to crush everything shy of a full grown human adult....that of course includes stomping...
cute puppies and adorable babies for full horrorshow effect.

For full-grown humans it would have to rend them..tear them apart...since it would need to be much bigger to stomp them...
So I think the designer's intent of stomp...rend...tear..stomp...
works to instill the required terror...instead of boring the intended victims and horrified audience with just ...stomp...stomp...stomp...

2- Huh...jeez Dave...it being soooo huge makes all the difference.....
if it weren't sooo big it would have to be called KR-001...hell even the name doesn't even seems so scary with out the G-for-Giant in front....

That make sense. But personally I had something smaller and more advanced in mind. Must be a reason why humans turned out in the current size. Gravity could be one. Also we must see some AI for private use on open market any day now...or soon.

I think it a lil' overkill having a very expensive and daunting giant killing machine...I would rather have a few cheap (small to tiny) personal protection drones hovering about ...faaaarrr more discrete when needful and intimidating when necessary ...than a glowing-red-eyed robot bodyguard with a chainsaw scaring everyone you run into hehe...

Speaking of the next stage of proper A.I. almost being ready

Viv is almost ready for ...hummm...deployment?...Unlike Siri...Viv's goals are: to predict...to anticipate and fulfill our desires. (I'm not sure I like that...it's past the edge of the "Uncanny Valley" (where our creations know us humans better than we know ourselves) and heading square.... head on...and deep... into the "Uncanniest Valley" (where we lose our place in the chain of evolutionary purpose)....and speaking for myself...I don't think I like that...)
She'll start changing a great deal..with the far-reaching impact of her abilities....and the A.G.I.'s that follow in quick succession will start changing at 1st slowly and then pick up steam.....quite an unknown region we are beginning to enter......As I mentioned that James Barrat is a good read......and speaks of such stealth companies...as Viv Labs ...labs hiding away where no one has any idea what is going on...or where the ethics of what they are doing and how it will ultimately affect us all...and not just humans...all human civilization and history and animal and plant life is at risk.
As example with Viv alone...as harmless as she may seem...there are other corp and gov't's doing the same...with far more dire consequences at stake...
Of course such devel. will happen ....we ...nor anyone else can stop the A.G.I. to A.S.I juggernaut ...
But...
As Barrat suggests.... "as never before we must at least begin the most important conversation our species needs to be having with each other..."

What conversation? We can't stop evolution now,can we.

But whose evolution exactly are we talking about...?

Only our own? Not going to happen

Us "in charge" using A.S.I. for our own whims, desires and needs? Definitely not going to happen...that is akin to the flea commanding the elephant.

Human and A.S.I. walking into the future together as Equals?
That walk into the future will last a nanosecond and then we most prob will be left behind....the baby kid brother that can't keep up....a hinderance...the amusement that didn't last...or worse.

Asking if we can tag along at least for a while...by modifying the human body/ brain/ mind/ genome to try to keep up...this is the best and longest lasting outcome..but only by a few more nanoseconds... eventually the more technologically advanced tribe wins...and A.S.I. will outpace us.

Being ignored...considered not relevant ...pushed aside..abandoned...or most likely ..simply... disassembled at the molecular level ...for nothing less than our species being a competitor for resources ....and frankly we are made up of alot of handy materials ...an A.S.I. would find useful and needful .. ....

I think there is a meaningful conversation and dialogue to have...while we still can have it. We most certainly need more complex and powerful computation and thinking machines...machines that vastly outstrip us?...are conscious? ...aware?...not only far-superior to us but have feelings as well? ..then we as a species...gotta come up with a new set of ethics...morals...
We just can't "make" our successor ..our inheritor...the new child...
Use her/ him/ it ...for our own purposes ...and expect things to go well for us...or for the child to grow up properly.

Hell of a thing to do..unleash a monster on the universe that could and prob would ....devour everything... from the size of stars and under.....not nice.....Especially for any other sentient species out there...at all in the universe...
