If intex doesn't release their version of the phone, it will be more clear what the point of the developer program is

Mass market doesn't want a phone without apps.
Giving people android apps is the easiest solution for jolla.

PS About paid apps store - look at BB/MS. Do you expect jolla can compete with them? And even they couldn't do anything with ios/android.

No, 'Android' isn't a replacement for Mer. It just fills the app gaps where there aren't any native apps for Sailfish.

I don't see what's different from the current phone?

Dual-sim
More base memory

Oh well. Guess thats it. Except, being the 'new' reference device.

Despite that, if you ask me (didnt get one, sadly), great way to:

1. Get community to
1a . Develop
2a in the fold
3a pay it
2. Continue business.

Keep it strong. We do need it.

You have misunderstood javispedro
I think he was refering to no difference between alien dalvik handling and hadk using "android" blobs, explaning to Jedibeeftrix that nothing has changed in this regards?

He was not speaking about hardware or (paid)-apps.

I agree with your both posts.

Yes. If for some reason they got rid of Aliendalvik, then the JollaC has one blob less... but the "android core/kernel" doesn't look much different than the Sbj.

maybe the misunderstanding is mine.

on the previous page when some asked what kernel version was used in the developer device the reply was version X / android 4.4

i presumed this was 'the' kernel of the device (rather than the davlik emulation layer), and so asked if the android build of the linux kernel was replacing the mer build of the linux kernel in future jolla devices. this didn't seem entirely unreasonable given that people are running sailfish UI over android derived cyanogenmod kernel.

to my limited understanding, 'the' kernel is the mer build of linux with its customised config/drivers/versions.
additionally, my limited understanding is that the jolla phone is packaged with the davlik emulation layer, which mimics android 4.4 (the last version of android that used the old style apk files used in older android phones).

two questions:
1. is my understanding above broadly correct, or fundamentally wrong?
2. were people talking about the version of the emulation layer, rather than 'the' kernel of the device? in which case i misunderstood.

cheers.
