Leafpad is a great little text editor that works well for this...

I notice that Yahoo claims that your Yahoo contacts can be ported to MSN.

Why don't you just get an MSN account, add all of your Yahoo contacts, and use that MSN account in Pidgin? That IM service still works.

EDIT: Oh, this is a couple of years old, but it may still be a problem...

EDIT2: But this suggests that it has been fixed...

My only problem with that is that if I open Leafpad in the Terminal, I'm given a DBUS message and Leafpad won't let me open to the root directory because it's using the default File Manager for browsing.

For the PC and Linux versions. Maemo has 2.5.1-2beta, but no fixes. I have it and was using it. Can't log on to Yahoo still. I don't use Yahoo anymore, but I wanted to test to see if it was working. Ziltch.

So does gpe-filemanager, which I have, but still can't edit the hosts file. Shows it as a "Notes" icon, but it won't open. Meh, I don't need to go on Yahoo! IM, I just wanted to test the workaround using the hosts file since the first workaround, changing the pager server, didn't work for me, both addresses.

Anyway, it's not a big deal for me. I just need WLM/MSN for it and it works.

emelfm2 has a built in editor plus you can select to use a different one if you wish. I've just found that it was a more usefull tool than the gpe-filemanager.

Yeah, unfortunately, you can't connect anymore to the "old" Yahoo! chat servers anymore since they were all upgraded. We'd have to wait for a new version of Pidgin to be developed, but dunno when that will happen.
