Wow just shows how the same chart gets different interpretations. Maemo goes from nothing to a significant slice of the pie and its seen as doomed

oh off course there is Qt strategy as well, which should unite the apps development.

Grin - the chart shows about 10% for Maemo of Nokia Sales in 2011.
Now Nokia is currently selling 50-60 Mio. Smartphones per year. That would give Maemo 5-6 Mio, devices in 2011. I wouldn't called this doomed. Or even worse: if chart talks about ALL of Nokia mobile sales, which are about 400 Mio. units per year (!), that would mean 40 Mio. Maemo units in 2011...which is about 2-3x current iPhone sales numbers :-)

"Kallasvuo directly addressed recent blog reports that Nokia is replacing Symbian with the Linux-based Maemo OS on its high end handsets, leading to speculation about what that means for Symbian's future.

Using Symbian makes good business sense for Nokia, and allows the company to develop cheap smartphones that will democratise the form factor, said Kallasvuo.

...

Maemo will only be used on its most expensive devices, including the recently launched N900, according to Nokia. Nokia executives didn't say much at the event about upcoming Maemo-based devices. The first product based on Maemo 6, the next version of the OS, will arrive in the second half of 2010, according to Alberto Torres, executive vice president of solutions at Nokia."

We do know a little bit based on their presentation a while back. That the next Maemo device will similar internals as the n900 (OMAP 3) and that it will have a capacitative touch screen. Then we also have mock-ups of what they're trying to do with Maemo 6.

From the figure, it tells me Maemo will take over S40...
