It looks as if carriers are tightening up and preventing installation of mobile-hotspot apps via the market:

Thank goodness for 'side-loading' though this really bites for the lay-person.

The next Android is indeed called 'Ice Cream Sandwich'. A slip by the infamous Romain Guy has alluded to the name:

Damn, I'm craving ice-cream all of a sudden...

This looks like a great app for listening to podcasts: Doggcatcher

MARKET LINK: https://market.android.com/details?i...ggcatcher.v1_0

It gets very high praise by the article author and may be worth a try.

I'm surprised you only saw this app now. This was the FIRST app I ever purchased back when I first got my Android... and it's the only app that I found suitable as a replacement for gPodder on my N800. Up until then, I'd always used my N800's gPodder--but this, combined with Android's excellent A2DP support, made it easy to switch over. I'm quite a happy, DAILY user of this app. (Well, more like THROUGHOUT the day--since I download CNN/FOX/CBC/BBC hourly news as podcasts to keep up-to-date with this app.

The Galaxy Tab 8.9 gets a [very] brief hands-on video:

Nothing particularly new, but it looks like it's functioning well.

The Galaxy S II has gained 200,000 pre-orders in South Korea alone in the first hour of sales:

This is pretty incredible. Samsung hopes to sell 10M units this year, which is looking like an attainable goal -- especially so with the world market in the picture. Something tells me that this will be a big seller.

Incredible indeed.
But why is Samsung aiming low with only 10M units? The Galaxy S family achieved that before the end of 2010 ... is there a shortage of parts (SAMOLED+, Exynos, parts from Japan) ??

The iPhone 4 hit 30M shipped units in 6 months if I recall correctly.
I wonder if Samsung has published their set-goal for their Galaxy Tabs.

I suspect that they are aiming low, but high enough to be impressive, so that they exceed expectations -- something that looks very good to shareholders.

I don't think that the Galaxy S will do iPhone-like numbers, but I do think that it will do exceptionally well in the marketplace. I suspect this pressure has spurred Apple into taking litigous* aim at Sammy.

* yes I just made up a word, but it works if you believe....

Right now this is the only alternative I would consider to my N900 (no damn fm transmitter though). But of course here in the US - no release date is even on the horizon. We have to wait for our telcos to completely fark up the phone before it can be pushed here.

Here is Android apps running on the Playbook:

http://crackberry.com/video-demo-and...oid-app-player

Very, very, neat.

It's actually an interesting strategy. It seems that RIM will have its own Android app market, which makes them another Android device manufacturer with a twist, they have a very unique UI and a completely separate OS, and a closed off ecosystem.

It seems that RIM is hedging their bets on their home-grown QNX distro with Android.
