#2, unlocked. I already have a phone with data service that I can tether to. Wifi only is preferable, but having a cellular radio at least gives the option for data. I still think 7" is an ideal tablet size.

I'm waiting (not so) patiently for a 7" tablet with decent specs. My current one is alright, but has some faults that I'd like improved.

The Dell Streak 7 is running Honeycomb 3.1!

The pixel density was altered to 'enable' the Honeycomb UI. Honeycomb seems to default to the Gingerbread UI for small screens.

It looks as if it's wonderfully fast. I suspect that the T20 under it's hood has help with the 'port' of the OS.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is seen playing Mario 64/Mario Kart 64 via n64oid. Verdict? Almost perfect performance. Awesome.

This version is for the Streak 7 -- the 7" version.

I'd love to see 3.1 on the Streak 5, but I'm curious what the port would look like on a) a 800x480 screen vs. the 1024x600, and b) using the 1GHz scorpion w/ Adreno 200 vs 1GHz T20 with GeForce ULP.

But hey, if it runs well (really no reason why it couldn't) then I'd also like to see a Tab 7 port!

What are the risks of rooting one of these android phones? I'm getting an Infuse this week and want to download Itching Thumb on it because I'm really going to miss my n900's multitasking. I read that you need to root the phone for Itching Thumb to work.

You don't NEED rooted for Itching Thumb, by the way, although it's recommended. MY OWN experience is that rooting is easy, great and, if you are careful with granting superuser permissions, very much well worth it. The risks are the same as ANY kind of root or admin permissions--either the chance of running a malicious script with root access or your own dumb mistakes causing severe problems. The most important thing, as always, is to be SURE you keep imaged backups of your device in case any of that happens--so you can always revert back to a known working and safe copy.

Oh good. Took you guys long enough to figure out that a locked-down handset computer wasn't much different from a locked-down desktop computer. Who the hell would want a computer that you couldn't install any OS or version of OS you wanted to install? (Let us not talk of the Apple faithful--we already saw the study about cult-like brain patterns in Apple fans, right?)

I'm actually lusting badly for that 11" Macbook Air.

I hope the next version brings 4GB DDR3 RAM, 128MB SSD, the new Core i7-2657M, and the ATi 6650 (or better, with switching).

But also other modifications like able to dual-boot (if your not able to), HDMI-out, a USB 3.0 (if not an extra USB and Thunderbolt), L+R click mouse buttons and backlight keyboard.

I know its too much to ask from stingy-Mr-Jobs, but give me those and I'll cough up even more ... probably upto AU$1,800 rather than $1,300 (because it'll be a long investment). Anyone share my views?
