I have a temporary solution:
I use the tip from the bugreport to kill hildon-home. The Desktop will
be restarted and the widget works again.
I use the desktop-cmd-exec widget and added the following command:
echo "killall hildon-home" | sudo gainroot | echo ""
Be sure NOT to enable "update on boot" and use at least version 1.10 of
the widget. Otherwise you will get into a loop of destop restarting.
If you get into a loop (maybe you made a mistake) you are only able to fix
it via ssh. Then edit or delete /home/user/.exec_desktop_cmd. But you don't
have much time to do this, because after a few restarts you will get into a
device reboot.
After correctly setting up the button (I named it "restart desktop") you will be
able to reinitialize the desktop, and get the mediaplayer-widget to work again,
without losing other widgets.
For me it is the best solution, until the bug is really fixed. But I am afraid, that
Nokia is leaving us alone with this. Sometimes I think, there is no more work
on Maemo and the N900, just Meego.
