*** This bug has been confirmed by popular vote. ***

With a little more info, and a (hopefully safe) method for re-producing the error on a tablet that wasn't previously experiencing it (e.g. my internal flash boot) - though I'm unsure if this is actually a valid test / way to reproduce.

Are you saying that command fixes the problem?

I didn't run what you have above yet, but here is the output of 'osso-product-info'. I had never used that command before.

Code:
Nokia-N800-23-14:/var/lib/dpkg/info# osso-product-info
OSSO_PRODUCT_HARDWARE='RX-34'
OSSO_PRODUCT_NAME='N800'
OSSO_PRODUCT_FULL_NAME='Nokia N800 Internet Tablet'
OSSO_PRODUCT_RELEASE_NAME='OS 2008'
OSSO_PRODUCT_RELEASE_FULL_NAME='Internet Tablet OS: maemo Linux based OS2008'
OSSO_PRODUCT_RELEASE_VERSION='4.2008.30-2'
OSSO_PRODUCT_WLAN_CHANNEL='FCC/US'
OSSO_PRODUCT_KEYBOARD='<unknown>'
OSSO_PRODUCT_REGION='<unknown>'
OSSO_PRODUCT_SHORT_NAME='Nokia N800'
OSSO_VERSION='RX-34+RX-44+RX-48_DIABLO_4.2008.30-2_PR_MR0'
Nokia-N800-23-14:/var/lib/dpkg/info#
What does the following command you are running do to it?
Code:
Nokia-N800-23-14:/var/lib/dpkg/info# cat osso-software-version-rx34.postinst
#! /bin/sh
osso-product-info -s OSSO_VERSION=RX-34+RX-44+RX-48_DIABLO_4.2008.30-2_PR_MR0 || true

If somebody finds a good and reproducible testcase, please add a step-by-step explanation to https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3586 . (This means: Please help the developers reproducing this and getting this fixed, but please don't spam the bug report with untechnical "I see this too" comments - use the Vote function instead. ;-) )

Qwerty - Thanks, but if that does what I think it does, putting the version info back, it's just fixing a symptom rather than the cause.

As per anders note on the bug, his fix seems to work (until reboot, of course, when the tablet-browser-daemon init script doesn't honour it's runuser variable again).

Solution from anders_gud on the bug page.

The pyano / pydrum packages are installing under the /scratchbox directory, which causes the tablet-browser-daemon to ignore one of it's variables.

Solution: remove pyano / pydrum, reboot - problem solved.

If you still want pyano / pydrum to work we'll need to move it's binaries, or ask Aisu to repackage so we don't have to move it ourselves.

Yes, Aisu should repackage PyAno and PyDrum.

"30-2" is saved somewhere in the internal flash.
"Nokia-N800-23-14" is in /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts.
also device name for bluethooth is a different one!

Go figure!
