There hasn't been any posts for a day or two, so interest may have already rolled on. My initial thoughts was just a small competition for the "craic" of it, maybe between now and the end of the month. That would give 3 weeks for learning/getting into teams/organising and a bit of coding. If we're bringing a bounty into it I guess that needs to be discussed and properly organised. Although Im thread starter, Im not nearly reliable or organised enough to run that properly so if anyone has experience or would like to do that then please step forward and volunteer

I've noticed a lot of things get talked about but not a lot actually gets started or done, if anyone wants to go ahead and get started while the other stuff is settled I say go for it. Next month we should be having our heads turned with the first UX release of Meego, this is probably a good time with nothing much happening in the n900 world to devote some time on this.

So that's that settled. end of this month will be the closing date for the competition. Then we will have a vote, say, a week after? I looked into creating a pot using bounty source and their site seems to be under construction.
https://www.bountysource.com/features/bounties

the only other alternative I could think of was
http://www.chipin.com/
somebody will have to set that up with their paypal account and the money seems to go there. So we still need a trusted community member to handle it if anybody wishes to volunteer.

I don't mind being a volunteer but I don't have money as I used all my savings for purchasing N900.
Let me know If I could help.

Regards

Hi ZogG, is that an app request or what you are looking to develop?

if it's the former for now I recommend GNUplot which is feature rich and perhaps ATI.Through easy debian there is also xmaxima which is very powerful.

if it's the latter, please do not let the existance of what I mentioned above put you off. The apps you linked look interesting and I look forward to trying out your version of them.

guys we need to lay down the rules and categories please!!! i mean if lets say two people make two great applications which are totally different from each other...they both solve two different problems...how are we going to vote that one of them is the best...cmon ppl. we need categories like:

games
social networks
utilities
widgets
and so on..

i know we are low on budget but i will happily donate money to promote goodwill and more applications...think about it

I think so. The thread started off brightly but it looks like a lot of the initial interest has died off, unfortunately. Maybe it can be resurrected yet.

I think that to get this kind of thing going, you just need to dive in. Set a date (weekend maybe), make up some rules and contact the few people who promised some prize money.

Personally I believe there needs to be a prize to set the mood. It doesn't need to be big, but it needs to exist. And that doesn't happen as a community project, it will just get the "death by committee" fate. Would be cool to get a semi regular thing going on, something like once a month or two weeks. But before it gets to that level it needs a determined and level-headed organizer, who will get the wheels turning.

So, if you feel like it, go for it! Don't wait for others. If you have a good thing in your hands, the people will come.
