Actually no, not an afterthought, it's been there for years. It just doesn't receive much attention from the dev team. (Patches welcome!)

You mean "micronews" (https://garage.maemo.org/projects/micronews/ )?

I'll take a look, but "First Alpha" makes me a litte wary.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I think we're saying the same thing: News isn't really core to Claws' feature set.

I don't really think that patches would help as it's more a question of the design. Claws seems to take a "treat news as if it were email" approach that just doesn't work for me.

Not that I *could* contribute patches. My programming skills are somewhat on the minimal side.

Sorry to add a link, but I've posted how I did it on my tablet blog at http://gerrymoth.wordpress.com/2008/...or-the-n800-2/
I recompiled the maemo-hackers.org port with Chinook SDK, so it could be easily installed on OS2008 from application manager and without additional (and obsolete) libraries/repositories required by the original Mistral package.

I've tried it and I'm thankful that you did it, however it seems that somewhere along the install process, it still builds in some of the same dependencies on libossomime and libs0. This makes it break others and I can then no longer install some updates to programs like vagalume or maemo-mapper. See my thread on this problem?

If there is something that I've done, please let me know, I'd love to have these all working together...

Sorry for the delayed reply.
Are you sure the problem is related to my deb? I have it installed on my tablet but libossomime and hildon-libs0 are not present and I can't see them in the dependency list.

I think it's buried somewhere in the code... I had installed it on a fresh new n810 with barely a thing on it and after installing I had those dependencies. I don't think it's something you did directly.. after installing pan, I tried installing vagalume and that is where it mentions the fact that I can't install because of a conflicting package in libossomime.. prior to that, i had no issue. Maybe it's something that I've done wrong.. on my n800, I had installed the original package and updated to your newer one... while on the 810, it was nearly a fresh install.. I still have this issue with my N800, which I've left as is, simply because I like having access to usenet, if only on the n800. Oddly, on a different tangent, I can't make the program fullscreen... any tips?

I tried to install vagalume package on my N800 with pan and it installed cleanly.

Do you have the problem only on your N800? If it is so, it may be an issue related to the installation of the old pan package or someting in your repository list.

It happens to me too. I don't know if the previous version did the same (I did not try it). There are a lot of other issues to fix (dialog windows size) but I didn't port the package, I just recompiled it fixing the compilation errors raised by the different libraries available on OS2008.
I feel tempted to try to fix the interface issues, but I'm not expert in gui programming so I'd have to study a lot to do something useful and it will not happen early.
