Hmm... This is probably related to the new altitude data being added to track data. Would you mind sending me an example track file that, when opened, gives you the error?

Sure; I hadn't thought about that before, since I usually like to download maps before I start driving, but I can see how it could be useful.

I have one quick question, I reckon one little thing you should add is an optional distance scale... I can't see it would be too hard, you obviously know what scale you are looking at when viewing any given map, so it shouldn't be too hard to draw a little scale! (Or does this feature already exist but I'm missing it?)
Yeah, that's a good idea that I just haven't bothered implementing. I'll see if I can get it in an upcoming release. Until then, one workaround is to click-and-hold on a point on the map and get the distance from your current position to that point.

Today I noticed the maps download from Google did not work. I tried different url addresses starting with mt., mt0., mt1., etc. but no help. It used to work before (have been couple weeks from the last time), but not today. The map retrieval seem to work OK using maps.google.com web site using browser on Windows, which suggest the map server is working but something has changed...

Anybody else having same problem or working fine???

Update: I found the problem. In the URL address I had 2.21 in one place and it needs to be 2.29. Funny that it did work before? It is working fine now.

Occasionally, Google Maps will upgrade the version of maps that it uses. They usually keep older versions around for some time, but eventually they stop supporting the older versions, at which point your URL will stop working.

There's a workaround: I've noticed that, although those lower, "deprecated" versions may not work, Google Maps has no problem if you give it higher, not-yet-existent version numbers. For example, replacing "v=w2.29" with "v=w2.99999" seems to work fine; I think Google reverts to using the most recent valid version.

So you can use "v=w2.99999" to get around the "suddenly invalidated URL format" issue. There are two very minor caveats. First, whenever Google Maps upgrades their map version, you'll start getting different maps, so it's possible to mix your Map Cache with older and newer maps that may or may not match well together. This isn't all that big a problem, though. The second caveat is that the version number has to match the current "w2.x" format, where "x" is an integer (i.e. "v=w99.999" doesn't work).

After taking a few long trips with my 770, it dawned on my what would be a cool feature for MM. when you use a route, could there be a "distance traveled/distance to go" info displayed? I know MM already tells you the distance between 2 points but can it tell you the distance between start and end of a route. And I'm not talking geographic distances but actual route distances. For example, my house to the grocery store is geographically 3.5 miles. But according to my odometer in my car, it is actually 4.2 miles because of the route I have to take.

btw, has anyone actually got poi to work? as in where to get poi db and actually use the damn thing?

Hi, I saw these listed at another URL (barghis.com or similar) but the link was dead. I found Ioan's apps here.

I haven't had a chance to try them yet.

I would like to see a maemo-mapper desktop applet, similar to the Canola applet, to be able to launch Maemo Mapper quicker.

I think this one-app-one-desktop-applet approach is bad, if it's only for launching apps, because real estate on the home screen is too limited for that. What we'd really need is a generic "launcher" applet to act as a quick menu in a compact and configurable way. It could replace the web launcher, the Canola launcher and all other launchers, leaving only applets that really have something useful to display (like weather or such).

I agree with fpp on this one. Something like a quick launch tool bar would make more sense.
