I would suggest, that you use ~/.knots as the defaul directory on Linux, I guess that .config is a OSX thing.
It used to be .knots, but I changed it .config (which is not an OS X thing ), but forgot to test that without the .config dir. Sorry for the regression, it's now fixed, will release it with 0.3.

I also have a VDR on my server, but I use xinelibout for remote viewing.
Great, thanks. Let me know how it works for you, especially the vdr part.

Ok, pushed 0.3 version out. It's not quite finished yet and it's missing some translation strings, but it should now be feature complete. I won't be adding new features until it's stable enough. So please test it (run ./knots stop && ./scripts/update && ./knots start and then update the client).

New features:

- Added a preferences dialog. Now you can change locale, subtitle language etc from the menu
- Server now saves the video position so you can resume from where you left off.
- New time display shows the progress of the stream. if it displays weird values, it usually means the video is somehow corrupted.

On the tablet?
I use the xine-plugin but AFAIK there's no version of xine running on the tablet, and the raw mpeg stream is too much for the tablet.

I watch that stream under windows with VLC, so I thought mplayer can play it too. Haven't tried it from the tablet yet.
But if it doesn't work, I'll change to the streamserver plugin, as I don't use xinelibout often, the VDR is mostly for recording.

Tablet can't handle the stream without transcoding.

You can watch the recordings with Knots without using VDR. But I'd like to know if Knots can parse your streamdev output properly.

I just tried to run Knots, but it didn't start as I haven't installed the ruby and the ruby-maemo package, the Deb-file had only dependensies for the lib. You should add those two, too.

It starts now, but movies don't start, mplayer says connection refused, have to investigate further...

Looks like the VLC 0.9.4 from Ubuntu that I installed on my server is buggy. Have to investigate deeper... :-(
But not today, my bed is calling...

I really hoped that these vlc issues would disappear after 0.9.2, but it seems this is not the case. I'm using VLC under Ubuntu and it works perfectly. Also 0.9.4 for OS X is pretty solid. And I think Luca got it working pretty well too, at least he hasn't reported issues with it But few people's VLC keep crashing when trying to stream in telnet mode.

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/c-korn/ubuntu hardy main

VLC version 0.9.4 Grishenko
Compiled by buildd@.unknown
Compiler: gcc version 4.2.3 (Ubuntu 4.2.3-2ubuntu7)

I think I now have VLC from there and it works nicely, but one user had issues with that too.

I also have that version. Will have a closer look tomorrow in the evening.

I'll also try to do the German translation.

EDIT: Check if these help:

Server

./knots stop
rm -rf ~/.config/vlc
rm -rf ~/.config/knots
./scripts/update
./scripts/setup
./scripts/install_worldtv99 (if you want it)
./knots start

Client

rm -rf ~/.config/knots
start knots and update it from the menu. You should then have 0.3.1 on both devices.

Thanks qwerty12 for your patience with tracking this.

Working, yes, pretty well I'm not sure. First, it's 0.9.3, then I had to mutilate various options (hopefully just the gui) to make it compile.
Then I cannot see live tv, just recordings.
Oh, and it seems the soverlay option doesn't work with dvb subtitles.
