On the HTPC side, are you using a MCE remote of some sort?

No remote yet-- I don't have an HTPC setup at all at the moment.

The size of the TJ06 is one of the things I love. This thing is not intended to be moved at all, and the airflow is phenomenal by design. And so much room to work with...

(Sorry, Texrat. When presented with a setup like that, I can't help myself.)

Greetings everyone from seat 10D aboard American Airlines flight 1543 to San Jose, California!

I'm on my way to the Santa Clara Maemo Developer event and working on a last-second presentation I was asked to deliver on behalf of all of you. I thought I would see how much the in-flight wifi was and got a great surprise: they couldn't process my payment so gave it to me free! Almost makes up for the taxi charge to the airport.

I am profiling the history (briefly) of maemo.org, showcasing some apps and describing some details of the developer experience. If anyone has suggestions, post them here! I have about 3 hours or so flight time so if my battery holds out I'll keep checking back in.

Later!

Just a brief update from the Maemo Developer event--

- it wasn't so much as a development event as it was a developer engagement event. Which was fine... it just meant last second changes to a last minute presentation

- this was where commercial and open source interests begin to collide... or collude? Good thing Quim invited code177, the target of all things monetary! He had provocative points but they were met by encouraging responses. More on that later, probably by him first

- I was encouraged by the support I got for community outreach. So brace yourselves for more meetups! But first, I need to do some recon to gauge interest.

- epage and code177 were great to hang with. Many awesome ideas came out of this little get together. THANK YOU MAEMO!

repeated from the community mailing list:

Greetings all!

Many thanks to the Maemo team for really stepping up in the Maemo Developer event this past week in Santa Clara California. Everyone with whom I spoke was really enthused at the opportunity to learn more, share ideas and realize they were being fully engaged by Nokia. This event was a true sign of positive progress for both the open source and commercial communities!

Some takeaways:

- Nokia understands the concerns expressed by individual contributors who want to find success in Ovi Store. No fine details to reveal at this time but be encouraged by the fact that they are listening! New member code177 expressed gratitude at the chance to get his needs in front of people willing to listen. He is also appreciated for volunteering to be the lightning rod here. ; )

- Nokia is receptive to the "gotchas" that have been hot topics in talk.maemo.org. Particularly, support for feedback, donationware and app testing functionality on the device. After some really stimulating discussion I corralled the ideas into what I think is an actionable plan to accomodate these wants and needs. More on that soon in Brainstorm and on my blog (so subscribe to the latter!).

- I was particularly relieved and excited to hear Ashley Walker's (Forum Nokia) support for local events in the US. Details need to be hashed out but I feel now that the push for this is no longer stalled. As with most things, it was simply a matter of navigating the Nokia matrix and connecting with the right facilitator! So I will begin a little recon work and report back when some plans are formed.

I commend Quim for having the foresight to get maemo.org into the mix. The contributions by code177 and epage (Dialcentral guy!) were invaluable.

In summary, I came away confident that open source and commercial interests in the Maemo ecosystem need not necessarily collide but can collude. I am beginning to see Nokia's longterm strategy in this space bear fruit now and offer solid promise going forward. Let's maintain the momentum, think positive and not let any roadblocks stand for long!

More info soon!

As always, your community council is your bridge to Nokia. Take advantage of us! ; )

Cheers!

Hallelujah! My replacement N900 was waiting for me when I got home today (some may recall the one I received in Amsterdam suffered the infamous usb ejection crisis).

I was happy to see updated firmware on it, although I can do without the cute and cumbersome clock and date settings methods. Having been away from the device a while, I was starting to wonder if the sluggish performance complaints had some merit after all... but I'm happy to report this thing is flying!

So now I'm ready to get back to testing, device-oriented blogging, event presentations, etc.

In addition, I have decided to more finely focus on community outreach and engagement, and pull back from some other activities here and abroad. That should help my available energy and current attitude.
