This might be a little off topic, but I didn't know you could remove modest like that. Is there any other preinstalled program in Diablo that an average power user can do without? I don't use the nokia chat thing, or the contacts list, I don't use modest. I do use the media player though ^_^.

While modest is... meh, claws I don't like. Interface too small, no LED notifications... while it does it's job, it doesn't take advantage of the features the tablet provides. I guess I'll live with this annoyance :/
Didn't see the post aboout the fix till just now. Will look into it, however I am a complete newbie compiling... well, mostly. did 1 nightmare of dependencies install once.

You can't, at least not without sacrificing several other packages that depend on it as well as SSU capability.

Loads :-(

That was tongue in cheek and actually you can't
Maybe that's something that the Community SSU could fix

Well, to each his own, to me those aren't problems, those are features

Probably not:

Code:
Nokia-N810-43-7:~# apt-get remove modest
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED
  camera-test hildon-application-framework-rx34-rx44 libosso-email-interface
  microphone-test modest multimedia-applications osso-filemanager
  osso-filemanager-ui osso-global-search osso-imageviewer
  osso-software-version-rx44
A lot of these are non-free so we can't even change their dependencies, and I suspect a lot of people would be upset if they lost the filemanager or image viewer for instance.

Almost all of those are an artifact of osso-software-version (which can be modified not to require modest), the only "real" dependency is on libosso-email-interface, which appears to be in the free repository (so in theory it can be reworkee not to need modest).

Edit: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/list...rs/42368#42368

Edit2: according to dpkg-query, modest takes up 996Kbytes, so it's not probably worth removing it, just leave it unused.

True, all those packages depend on libosso-email-interface rather than modest directly. It'd be nice if someone wrote an alternative implementation using claws (hint hint!) so we could replace the whole email stack.

Edit: might not be that hard actually, since claws supports most of the required functionality via command line arguments.

osso_email_files_email -> claws-mail --attach
osso_email_url_email -> claws-mail --compose (with a body provided)
osso_email_emailto_email -> claws-mail --compose
osso_email_get_folder_list -> claws-mail --status-full (with some output post-processing)

The only tricky thing to replace seems to be global search (ie the equivalent of modest-search-plugin) due to the requirement for dbus, but even that looks doable (or, if not, it's not the end of the world - I certainly wouldn't miss it).

Any takers? ;-)

Ah, but make sure it doesn't get started anyway behind your back (via /var/lib/alarmd/alarm_queue.xml).

I have the following Catalogue in Application Manager. I can't remember when I installed it but I presume it's the right one?
Catalogue Name: Community SSU
Web Address: http://home/maneos.org/maemo/community-ssu/
Distribution:
Components: Free
I'm getting the following error message on the Catalogue List in Application Manager->Menu->Tools->Application Catalogue....
Community SSU - failed to refresh
http://home.maneos.org/maemo/communi...el/Packages/gz
401 Authorization Required[IP:88.187.82.168 80]
Should I be using a different repository?
