Hopefully these are legitimate updates and not "dummy" files.
Great. And here support in Berlin was well informed about it one week ago..

I've updated the maps direct from maps application on device, via wifi and charger connected. It took about 2,5 hours for the most of European and some other countries.

There was 1 or 2 advices "no response from programm" but I've ignored them.

Doing update OTA, but keeps saying "Maps not responding".
It's a WiFi problem I think, cause it continues after some seconds.
Keep alive!!

You can just delete your maps, and download again.

Unfortunately I'm afraid that this update doesn't bring too much new data. Here's a comparison between Nokia Maps from N9 and Here Maps on WP8.1:

The roundabout on the right was built half a year ago and still isn't in N9's map after new update.

Yes, I noticed that as well. The Here web version does seem to have more recent maps when compared to those in the offline update in a couple of instances that I've checked.

That said, others are reporting that there are some tangible updates to the maps in this update.

Reporting that, in deed, actual newly updated Map of Quebec, Canada after 2 years; the last portion of Highway 30 has been open from Montreal south shore : St-Constant to Vaudreuil-Dorion highway 40 do finnally show up in the Maps on my N9. That was updated in HERE.com 2 to 3 month after oppenning and nobody at that time from Navtec could give clear answears to my querry on the futur plan to maintain or update maps servers for Symbian devices.. Updating My N8 right now to check if it's maps data will be at the same level.
