Hello!

Thanks to Bunanson and his wonderful guide, my 770 has been resurrected and is now useful again.

But, I'd love some advice and hopefully a solution to my little problem

The kernel that was installed supports screen rotation(?), and I have successfully installed Xrandr, along with the advanced backlight applet. And, when I select an "A", the screen inverts, but portions are just... broken?

I'm not quite sure how to describe it except that some parts of the screen are "stuck" when it's rotated. Like, I can see the web icon on the panel, but when I click it, only a small portion of the menu actually appears.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot

I don't think the kernel for 770 does support rotation. I know jott found this link a while ago and is adding rotation support into advanced backlight for 770 users:
http://syslog.movial.fi/archives/7-x...nokia-770.html

(I'd take that to be:
1. Run fb_update_mode auto from http://fanoush.wz.cz/maemo/fb_update_mode.tar.gz
2. Install xrandr from http://sse2.net/rotate/pool/main/x/x....2-0_armel.deb and use xrandr -o left etc

That is software rotation done in X server. HW based rotation in kernel is possible but both the 770 hardware and 2.6.16 kernel is a bit different so N8x0 rotation patch needs some (relatively trivial) work. I haven't done it because I'm short of time and find practical usefulness of rotation very low. Also OS2007 and below may not play nicely with rotated display and IMO few people use 2008HE on 770. If someone has no problem building custom 770 kernel, wants to work on the rotation and needs help with 770 hardware or kernel differences, just ask. I'd like to do it in some spare time (next life?).

Yes, this might work (even if slower). Also there may be problem with video playback.

I wonder why people want rotation on 770? Do you need 90 or just 180 degree (because of buttons)? 180 degree only has higher chance to work in OS<=2007.

Can't speak for the 770 users, but on the N800, I use portrait mode, but don't like inverse -- on the N800, at least, the zoom/fullscreen/power buttons are impossibly placed.

Thanks a lot for the replies, everyone.

Qwerty, it's much appreciated. Unfortunately, it is still unusable, but it did improve slightly.

I'm just using my tablet as a remote control for my server I have hooked up to some speakers, it just would have looked nicer if it was rotated Thanks again, guys. I'll keep looking in to it...
