This thread is just for listing apps you have found performing well on Leste, so that if someone installs them they just work.

Why Midnight Commander is not available from Application Manager? It works fine on Leste, it has touch screen support, although it is terminal software and it has pre made icon.

Is Emacs available and working on Leste? I am seeing some fantastic progress so if it is not too buggy and emacs works I am ready to take the plunge.

I just tried on N900 and Emacs seems to run very well.

A bit low during the first load, and then pretty fast.

(Emacs available with apt install)

My list of cool apps running well on N900 with Leste:

- SMPlayer (see N900 wiki for settings)

- Audacious (really cool with internet radio)

- Twinkle (SIP calls and messages work perfectly with ippi accounts and probably other SIP providers, /etc/pulse/daemon.conf must be modify to get audio working)

- RetroArch ( NES and SuperNES emulators work fine, see N900 wiki for settings)

- Viewnior (simple image viewer)

- Transmission (works with both torrents and magnet links)

- Thunar File Manager

- E-mail (the Maemo stock app, compatible with imap4)

- HamsterFiler (fast file browser with keyboard, a bit slow with touch screen)

- NOMWeather (really cool)

- Yt-dlp (for download and stream from many web sites)

- Links2 (the best web browser at the moment, working well in GUI mode with Hildon composition disabled : Ctl + Shift + N, but lack of javascript)

- Irssi ( for IRC of course but combined with a local Bitlbee server it is possible to use FB messenger, Signal, Twitter and others...)

Nice - thanks for checking! The latest version of Emacs for Fremantle is 25.1 - that works very well.

Leste Emacs version is 27.1

For Twinkle on N900, you must dist-upgrade Leste to -devel (to get UCM2 audio files working) and edit /etc/pulse/daemon.conf :

Add these 3 lines:
Code:
 resample-method = speex-fixed-2
Code:
 default-sample-rate = 48000
Code:
 alternate-sample-rate = 44100
Then reboot and install/configure Twinkle

(note: it is easier to use twinkle-console at the moment)

TLS transport is working fine with Twinkle.

(working with ippi and sip2sip accounts, not working with linphone)

Great contributions. I think I will wait for a new image that will incorporate some of the tweaks and configurations. Seems like that is just around the corner.
