Just letting you know that my old builds of tmux and shellinabox for N800 works well (or even better) on N900.
That would be:
tmux (just like GNU screen):
a terminal multiplexer: it enables a number of terminals (or windows), each running a separate program, to be created, accessed, and controlled from a single screen. tmux may be detached from a screen and continue running in the background, then later reattached
Shell In A Box implements a web server that can export arbitrary command line tools to a web based terminal emulator. This emulator is accessible to any JavaScript and CSS enabled web browser and does not require any additional browser plugins.
To use it you'll need an adduser package (available in default repositories). Then it starts as an init script (/etc/init.d/shellinaboxd) or can be run manually by invoking shellinaboxd command. Then you can point your internet browser to the N900 IP address with a default port :4200 eg. 192.168.1.xxx:4200 and log in.
That would be:

Install libevent and put tmux binary (simply untar and chmod +x) in /usr/bin
