hello,

as opera mobile 10 is out i was confronted again with the
same problem i had when i first started microb resp. fennec.

how should i import my bookmarks? most browsers follow the
trend to sync bookmarks and other settings online. i
dont know how others think about it but i try to avoid to
shift my personal data from my local hd to the internet
using weave, opera link or whatever. and i dont have
the know-how to build a local server to bypass this but i
am open for it.

i used opera long time ago on my zaurus and it was trivial
to import bookmarks. i exported them from my desktop
browser to a file, transfered and renamed it to opera6.adr
on my zaurus. but things changed and i can't figure out
where the bookmarks etc are saved now on my n900. i tried
to add and delete them to see changes in .opera but no
chance ...

can someone help out? methods for microb and fennec are
also welcome...

You can import them in your desktop Opera and then use Opera Link to transfer them on your device.

For Fennec use Weave.

Well, you can type them by hand

Weave is at least encrypted, dunno about link since I rarely use Opera.

MicroB supports XBEL so if you Save As your bookmarks from Konqueror for instance, you can directly use them in MicroB.

On the other hand Fennec supports the standard HMTL for Mozilla.

Konqueror exports both HTML and Opera's adr files. Opera can export .adr too.

The problem is to find where to place them but it should work.

To EXPORT from microb...Easy peasy. Can't do it on the device itself just yet (although I'm working on it). For now just download and install...BookMarkBridge from...http://bookmarkbridge.sourceforge.net/downloads.html

How to:
This is Win7, but BookMarkBridge runs on Linux too. Doesn't seem to be a Mac version, but as long as you're not left handed or ginger this probably won't bother you

1. Backup your N900 Bookmarks
2. Copy the bookmarks.zip file to your desktop
3. Extract the bookmarks.zip file to a known folder. Bookmarks are contained in the MyBookmarks.xml file.
4. Open BookMarkBridge.
5. Click settings and add Konqueror.
6. Click browse and point it to your extracted MyBookmarks.xml file. You may get an error saying that it's not a normal bookmarks location. Just ignore this and accept.
7. Still in settings add your destination browser. The bookmark/favorites location should be correct. Alternatively if you don't want to import directly into your desktop browser and want to export to file just point it to an empty folder instead. Again, you may get an error saying that it's not a normal bookmarks location.
8. Select Konqueror as source browser
9. Select your desired destination browser
10. Click merge.
11. Job done

N900BMX (BookMarks Xporter) - beta 1.4.5
==================================

Ok, I finally have that application ready to export N900 bookmarks. The current beta version is 1.4.5. Want a copy? It's not available in the repositories/ through application manager so...

Log in, email me requesting a copy, and I'll send it by email attachment

> N900BMX is free (GNU GPL License)
> Adds the capability to export native bookmarks to both HTML and XBEL formats. This function is missing from theN
N900s public release firmware. Why? Who knows?
> Start it from the N900 menu - no faffing about with X-Terminal
> I've tried hard to make it as user-friendly as possible. I just HATE those X-Terminal apps where you need a degree in programming to use them!!!
> Full-screen mode
> A built-in help file (you probably won't need it though)
> Specifically designed for the N900
> Sorry, only available in English (i.e. not translatable, but could be by hacking the code if the mood takes you).
> Coded in one py file for ease of hacking. Don't you just hate hacking modular applications? Yuck!
> Created by buzz_11, August-December 2011.
> Coded in Python/PyQt4 - depends Qt: Core, Gui and Xml

>Note
You will need PyQt4 already installed on your N900 to use it. This can be installed through the application manager. Google install pyqt on the n900 if you don't know how to do this, or take a look at http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=36221

> The screen shots below are of previous testing versions but the latest version looks the same. The style shown is Maemo 5 Classic but an alternative buzzin blue style can be selected, if desired.
