Why? I use non latin1 characters on N770 and don't feel screwed. International support is quite good. I believe proper unicode/UTF-8 support was one of reasons why they made virtual keyboard in GTK and not plain X11 (even if the biggest reason probably was tighter integration with text input widgets).
