Oh dear,
now I can reproduce it. You were talking about the "Type" field/menu item and I was trying to type something

This bug also affects the "Language" item.

Rainy sunday result of some route and search icon tries.
Thoughts that went into:
  • The grid menu icon is technically incorrect as the actual menu page is a list, not a grid. So the list grid is now a correct representation, but maybe not as pretty (or familiar) as the grid circles.
  • Also for the grid icon i made the circles a tiny little smaller so they fit to the 64 pixel definition in the svg and thus should give better subpixel representation.
  • Maybe put the compass left to have only on row of icons?
  • 2nd row from below was the full blown result after many tries. As always, when i looked at it longer it seemed too complex and i began to thin it out again
  • 3rd row from below is a little cleaner
  • top row is the combo i like most currently if not 2nd row from below...

svgs attached for you all to play with and maybe have a little round of "draft pong"?

I had configuration files of some ancient OSM Scout server release which messed up my setup. I was not able to use offline maps. Online maps were OK.

However, Pure Maps started working in offline mode after removing old configuration folder .config/harbour-osmscout-server and reconfiguring OSM Scout server.

I don't know what others think, but for me this suggestion of you:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=378
was more of my taste (so I stay with my 12 points ). Especially the search icon in your new suggestions is at least for me somewhat irritating. All in all I personally would prefer icons, as clean as possible.

The previous draft was based on the "center view" icon with a transparent circle background. Now if you use those icons in the menu they look odd.

But i get what you are saying. I am all for simplistic icons. Only the demand is quite complex here.

Personally i think of the blue position marker as a kind of "corporate identity/design" of pure maps. It is not just another sailfish icon, it has a subtile difference that makes it attractive to me.
It is very powerful, giving a direction and telling where you are precisely.

Fellfrosch, i just became aware the icon you did is overdone in the same way my new search icon is. We both tried too hard. The icon for pure maps should be pure. I propose to have the same simple blue position marker with white center as general icon and as routing icon in black/white.
My search icon is overdone because it only makes sense in an overdone environment (with the street in the background). Your icon is overdone because it invites too many interpretations and does not let the position marker CI shine enough.

Thoughts regarding new users, my feeling is most of them try/use puremaps because it is a linux navigation solution with turn-by-turn feature. Those users would recognize the position marker as synonym for giving direction already at app-drawer level and easily make the abbreviation to hit the same "button" to enter a route when in the map.
Advanced users already know the position marker is only used during navigation and thus make the connection easily.

The gain would be unification of the design and forming kind of a brand logo by using the marker in 3 places + the menu then.
I think i will do a banner to further that idea.

So, how do you feel about changing the icon

Just few cents: we may have to put in future icons into some background button, to separate them from the map. There is at least one more icon planned to switch between map layers (day/night, streets/outdoors/...). In this respect, icons themselves should be without background as in http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=378 . And, as pointed out
these icons could be used on menu page as well (like in Linux desktop version).

You mean into that?

Even so I like the old icon more, you are right that it better fits to the name of the app. So changing it is no problem for me.
