pypackager or py2deb by khertan allow you to make .deb files on your tablet.
pypackager is available in Chinook Extras and py2deb is available in Diablo Extras.

It would be really nice, especially for the next tablet which will have a little more CPU power, to easily be able to compile and package on the tablet itself. These packages were around on the 770 but I havn't really seen them since.

Note: If you figure out how to get the autotools to install, you have to edit the files to point to /usr/bin/perl instead of /scratchbox/tools...
Had fun with this one when I was compiling advanced-backlight on the device...

I think the best solution would be to make a 'on-tablet scratchbox' by cloning a vanilla maemo filesystem, then chrooting into that and hacking the tools into the system (from the SDK or Debian or somewhere). That way you can have an on-tablet dev system without trashing your main system.
I would host this dev system in a heartbeat if someone set it up...
