pypackager or py2deb by khertan allow you to make .deb files on your tablet.
pypackager is available in Chinook Extras and py2deb is available in Diablo Extras.

Note: If you figure out how to get the autotools to install, you have to edit the files to point to /usr/bin/perl instead of /scratchbox/tools...
Had fun with this one when I was compiling advanced-backlight on the device...

I think the best solution would be to make a 'on-tablet scratchbox' by cloning a vanilla maemo filesystem, then chrooting into that and hacking the tools into the system (from the SDK or Debian or somewhere). That way you can have an on-tablet dev system without trashing your main system.
I would host this dev system in a heartbeat if someone set it up...

I would rather have the tools to develop directly on the tablet. The main reason I would want to develop on the tablet is so that I am not limited by the python and perl versions inside scratchbox. So I can easily compile against my own perl and python versions. As for trashing your main system, I would just have a development partition cloned out and not worry about my main system.

Sorry penguinbait, I was obviously not clear. I am in complete agreement with you; I don't want a literal scratchbox environment, I want an SDK-style environment set up on a cloned partition. It would have all the same versions of libraries, perl, python, etc that the tablet has, but it would be specifically set up for development, not for day-to-day use as a primary OS.
I used the word "scratchbox" because it works similarly, you "login" to a virtual environment, very much like a chroot.
