Hi All,

Next round of silly questions from me

I downloaded KDE from http://www.kwik.cz/n800/KDE356FINAL1.tar.bz2

And untar it using the following instructions:

apt-get install bzip2

cd /

/tar-temp/bin/tar jxvf KDE356FINAL1.tar.bz2

It goes for ages, I leave it for a few hours and its frozen. I've tried it 3 times, including leaving it overnight. By frozen I mean I can't turn it off, can't click on anything, I have to take the battery out to reboot it!

I turned off wireless, any of the applets and anything else I could think of before untarring but no luck... any ideas?

I haven't tried this myself, but here are my thoughts. It is possible that bzip is creating a temporary file before tar starts un-taring the file. If that temp file is created on your root partition, it could fill the drive, and make the OS very unhappy.

I would suggest bunziping the file manually (on an SD card), and then doing the untar (again on an SD card).

I hope this helps,

Craig...

Hi Penguinbait,

Thanks for the PM - I downloaded it and used the tap and bzip I currently have and of course it hung again after about 2 hours...

So you'll have to forgive my ignorance... once I download your tar.gz and bzip.gz, how do I install them (and making suer I go over what I've already got installed?)

err...are you SURE you're not untarring it directly into your flash mem and filling it up!

Have you installed Fannoush's boot menu; copied over your OS to your SD card and booted from the SD card before untarring KDE? [or chrooting to your SD card?]

download the files, gunzip the files, place the files in /usr/bin

/usr/bin/tar jxvf KDE#$%^$#$%.tar.bz2

Hmmm you might be on to something there. I'm sure I'm booting from my MMC card but I think I've run out of room on that too. Looks like I didn't make the partition big enough...

When I run fs I get:

/dev/mmcblk0p2 1457136 1323136 59980 96% /

So from how I interpret that, its booting from MMC, but the partition is full. Bummer.
