Looking good here, Jay. Can I help with setting anything up?

I think I'm good for the moment. Video Center RSS feed works and validates, updating whenever anything new enters the VC database, though unapproved. I'll be fixing that at some point... but for now, for those interested... http://www.jablet.net/videocenter/rss/videocenter.xml. Let me know if anything you find in the feed doesn't work at all. I haven't had the time to test them all out. Adding shows to your Video Center from the RSS feed is really, really nice. RSS feed only picks the highest quality of the shows though... so if there's an Xvid and mp3 stream, it'll be the xvid in the stream. Not sure if RSS can handle multiple links per item though.

    More stuff happening soonish.

EDIT: I plan on adding this to my Openfire server to help get user status into users personal pages. For example, on Tex's page, you'd see "Tex was last seen online with status 'wtf?' at 12:21am" or "pixel is currently online" complete with presence icons. Of course, configurable by the user.

So many ideas, so little time.

Zero, I left you a jaiku in #jablet, but I'll repeat here for pixel's and r2d2's sake.

So far we've been pretty informal, and you're running at lightspeed () which in most respects is great. But to answer your question about updates, I think we need to define the best venue and vehicles. Your comment in jaiku just now about a developer section is right on target. Maybe this forum is the place for all public announcements, jaiku for periodic updates (pixel and r2d2 need invites) and then some other solution for project/task management.

The other guys have been dying to do something but I realize when someone gets a creative burst it's often best to let them go solo until help is actually needed. Based on a post above I think you're reaching that point, Superman. :P

But I have an idea: I really, REALLY need help with LDUG, especially site and database stuff. So I can definitely give r2d2 and pixel some meaningful opportunities there... and when you're ready, post your own needs.

It takes a while to come together as a team but I think we have a good core crew right now. We should be able to avoid ego battles and all that other stuff that gets in the way. So let's find some time this weekend to formalize the goals and process a bit (not TOO much-- let's avoid Microsoft Project ) and break it all down into manageable tasks. I will start by finishing the prep work for ldug and writing up a strategy.

Oh, and I'm still trying to figure out how to organize. I don't see a need for a full-blown registered non-profit, but we need *some* sort of legal structure to prevent problems down the road. Hopefully I can find other organizations that can provide an example (such as other user groups).

    See you on jaiku!

I'm not really a PHP/MySQL guru and it's been a long time since I did much with it... but it's been fun using this project to help relearn it and learn more than I had originally.

Anyways, once the phpBB is setup properly (most likely tonight or this weekend), we'll move our Jablet-related activites over there so as not to piss off or annoy ITT users with our every little thought. That's what Jaiku is for.

As I saw last night at Thoughtfix's chat, we're starting to get a few fans.

Keep checking Jablet's News page for updates. (I need to get an RSS feed going on there too, I know.)

Sounds good. I have been recommended http://www.basecamphq.com/ as a good projec tracking tool. Not full fledged project management, but possibly enough for our purposes. Might be worth meeting up in the conference room at some point, to discuss what you want for LDUG, and what we can do to help?

    Sure thing.

I created ldug.dreamhosters.com to hold development work until the actual domain is moved. The structure of the current site (www.ldug.org) is a decent launching point but is obviously missing functionality. Of course there are plenty of similar sites to model from.

Also note I revived the ldug thread. I need to hear from DFW area tablet users!
