Hmm... that's a pretty good idea as well. I would assume these settings are just regular text files sitting in /home/user/... great idea.

I like this idea. I sometimes feel like the first guy in town with a telephone when I turn on my tablet. There's noone to call...

Even if it wasn't totally free. I'd certainly make a contribution to startup cost/effort.

Yeah, I like benny's suggestion. That adds a LOT of value!

EDIT: ok, zero, I'll set this up (I've been meaning to anyway with LDUG). 1and1 Linux Business server is a mere $10 per month (https://order.1and1.com/xml/order/Ho...f=Order-Tariff) and has the necessary features. -DC- already donated $10 to the cause a while back, so there's 1 month!

    EDIT 2:

    jabtab.net?
    jablet.net?

    Both available!

In talking with Openfire's developers, v3.4.0 is going live at some point tonight along with v1.2.0 of the IM gateway.

Seems like we've got interest, Tex... I guess whenever you put up the server (and figure out a domain name), we'll throw OpenFire 3.4.0 on it and play around.

I'm kind of interested in creating a sort of lifestream type thing. Allow users to post links to their profiles on various different sites (Flickr, Digg, etc...) and put it all in an RSS feed. Sort of a "what I'm doing online" sort of thing. Kind of what you can do with Jaiku.

GarageBattle is listening to Song A on Last.FM
Texrat has posted 3 pictures on Flickr
    ...

That sort of thing.. I don't know. Just brainstorming.

I thought of jabtab.net also but who.is told me it was owned by GoDaddy? If we could get jabtab... that would be great.

$10 a month is pretty damn cheap. I suppose we'll just put a donation button up somewhere if anyone's wanting to help out with hosting fees.

Who knows... this could be big.

    Done.

I went with "jablet.net" for now, but the package includes 3 domains. I'll transfer ldug.org later, so that leaves 1 open if a better name comes along... but I'm really starting to like jablet...

Once admin panel is ready, zero, I will PM you the details. I'll set up an admin email account we can both access by default and you can setup any others you wish also.

No no-- tabjab was registered with GoDaddy-- jabtab was open. But for now it's moot.
