"The first, the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet, was launched in May of 2005. It was targeted at “named super geeks;” the company’s goal was to sell a mere two thousand of them to specific users. The sequel, the N800, was launched in January of this year and was targeted at a somewhat broader geek segment — “prosumers” who are early adopters.

According to Tom Dunmore of Stuff.tv, around 300,000 of the earlier models were sold (surpassing the company’s projections.) But to hear Vanjoki tell it, selling units wasn’t the point."

Ditto. I'd like to see more details on the stuff.tv source, though - this is the only source we've ever had on the number of units sold; would be nice to have some corroboration.

Agreed. Something to back up the numbers would be nice.

I am SO glad that those details were made public. I can quit dancing around certain things now.

Anyway-- see? VINDICATION!!! of a sort.

This is the only number I've seen anywhere regarding sales of internet tablets.

But Alistair Croll phrases things rather ambiguously. I read his statement as saying 300,000 is the number of sales of the 770 and N800 combined. And I can't find anything on the stuff.tv site that Croll cites as the source of that number.

Someone else able to locate it?
