I work for Sprint, all the EVDO phones that have been out in the last 4-6 months are Rev A capable- but are only operating @ Rev 0.

I tried the M500, worked good, tired a m610 (both of these are samsungs) and it worked the best so far. Also there is a work around for Samsung phones to enable free PAM (Phone As Modem) use. Thats why I'm picking mostly Samsung phones.

Yeah- well if you buy a phone from anywhere but Sprint you can do it w/o renewing your contract- but the prices are what they are. If you've had the phone less than 1 year its full price w/ sprint, and @ 22months you get the cheapest listed price but you have to renew your contract. Anytime you get any price break or special or freebie you're basically signing a contract. So be wary. Check into the m610 online- its a discontinued Sprint phone but IMHO it's the best PAM phone. Super thin and basic appearances- but good connectivity and if I remember right it's still rev A capable.

I've been toying with signing up with with Sprint through SERO. Any reason to wait until after new year (i.e., anything new being released and/or program improvement)? And it sounds like Mogul or Centro are my best options; is that right?

Well there is now the HTC Touch (the Mogul's "upgrade" less PDA but more smartphone,) the Centro, & the Blackberry Pearl 2. But the BB Pearl2 doesn't come out for another 2 weeks. Those are the only new phones I as a low level "insider" know about. I'll try to keep this thread updated if I hear anything new on the horizon, or run into any problems in my own tests.

I'm going for the Centro once my current contract is up (I still have 8 weeks). My biggest fear (and this will seem weak here) is that the Centro will do so much that I won't care about the second device in my pocket (the N800). After seeing a few posts from much more long-timers than I am, that 'one device doing things right' is what they were really looking for (the iPhone) I am concerned that picking out a nice data phone with a good ketboard (good being relative to the on screen keyboard) will make me fall into that same camp. Not that I have anything against that camp.

With a Centro (or any other good phone) will I have to wait for the data synch (even 20 secs is a wait) or will the n800 just fire up a data request?
I ask because I've had laptops that just get on with the data, and I've had others that take 20 secs to authenticate first.

Sad as it may sound, that 20 sec warm up is a deal breaker. When i pull something out of my pocket, I want it to work then.

Any tips?

Something that has been mentioned in other forums is that the unlimited data part of SERO may no longer be available in 2008. Anyone with further insight on this?

Can anyone verify this? At treocentral.com no one has been able to link the Centro with any of the tablets.

I have a Centro and initially using the built-in connectivity of the n800 it would pair, but the two devices would not talk to each other. I read a post on this forum about using USBmodem (you can search for it), and then downloaded the trial version onto my Centro. It was all pretty easy. USBmodem asks if you want to disable built-in DUN and you say 'yes'. After that you pair the two devices and then connect. From my location n800 web surfing through Sprint was slower than wifi, but quite acceptable.

Surfing the Web on my Centro alone is much less enjoyable on its small screen than using my n800 and connecting through the Centro to Sprint. The Centro is a very cool (geeky) phone, but there is no chance that the Centro will replace my tablet.

Definitely, but it is complimentary to the N800.
