I saw this phone accessory for cars today:

http://europe.nokia.com/ck-15w

...and started thinking, that would be sweet functionality on the tablets, especially the N810 since I'll be using its GPS in my car. Press the menu button on your phone, and if the tablet is in proximity, it could echo the phone's display so it would be larger. For me this would be really handy with scheduling. Of course I would not drive while reading it.

Is such a thing even possible, and what are other opinions regarding practicality?

X11VNC works on my N800 at least, so you could, for example, mount an old laptop under the seat, networked to the N800, and displaying through whatever sort of display. (If I had money, I'd like to experiment with converting a projector to give a HUD on the windshield; a LCD panel mounted on the visor is more likely.)
You could initiate the VNC session from the IT easily enough. It'd be kind of cool, but for it to really work well, you need a touchscreen on the big display as well. If you had that working with your car computer, it should just work with VNC. And if your screen is, say, 800x600, it wouldn't take too much work (in linux, at least) to hack together software buttons for all the hardware buttons on the device in the remaining space.

Which sets me thinking,: Screw the soft-keys! The LCD/touch-screen, and a few hardware switches, stuffed into a 3x life-size N8x0 case, and mounted to the dash. (Too much caffeine, it makes me think of all the clever mods I have neither time nor money for.)

Yeah, but I'm looking for PHONE access. I've got regular ol' rdesktop working to let me see my PCs-- but I was talking about emulating what the device I depicted above does.

Ooooh, misunderstood ya. Though I think you misunderstood me too.
I was talking of setting it up so you can see tablet's display on PC, not like rdesktop seeing the PC on the tablet.
So I meant, like CK-15W & phone, but tablet replaces phone.
You meant, like CK-15W & phone, but tablet replaces CK-15W.

Unfortunately, I have no clue on that side of things. I suppose that uses the handsfree profile, which could be implemented on an N8x0.
Looks like there's a project working on it:

And that would be sweet. Not just for in car, but for all use. Keep cell-phone locked away in pocket it won't fall out of, and use it as a BT voice/data modem only.

Um.. isn't that what I keep saying I want to see, for the last 2 months (since I joined this forum)? Having the NIT support the various bluetooth modes that allow you to remote control your cell phone (dial calls, answer calls, see caller id, access the phone's contact list, and act as the "headset" for the phone)?

Symbian S60v3 and S80 phones can install vnc servers (i.e. see http://my-symbian.com/s60v3/software...Auto=279&faq=1 - this is said to work over BT and have a linux client ) so that might be done, I think.
