    Media Converter Makes BIGGER Files?

This is completely baffling to me. I have an .avi file that's 720MB on my desktop. I open Media Converter, set it to N800 High Quality (the middle selection in the drop down list), and I end up with a 774MB file? How does THAT work out?

Isn't the idea of the Media Converter to reduce the filesize and optimize it for the processor/screen size of the N800?

I'd guess that it's using a bitrate which is higher than that in the source video.

This is something that the newly released version of tablet-encode now does (thanks to Benjamin Réveillé): if the per-pixel bitrate of the source video is lower than the preset, reduce the video bitrate in the output file.

This results in massive savings when converting already existing DivX/Xvid files.

Thanks for the link, but will that work for videos in OS2008, given that Mplayer isn't ported quite yet?

tablet-encode's output works with both the built-in Media Player and mplayer. In fact, since OS2007 even the "mplayer" preset works in the Media Player :-)

If that's not clear, I need to improve the documentation (since the page is new...)
