I've been doing a lot of hunting around online, and the best deals I came across for Canadians are the following:
1) Buy.com Canada - they are presently out of stock but selling the 810 for CAD $432 + PST & GST. Free shipping, and I think they have a 5% discount on at the moment.
2) This guy over at eBay is selling them for US $445 and $31 shipping to Canada via USPS. Since he is not using UPS, you should not get dinged with any customs and broker fees.
Well, 515 isn't that bad if that's the full total you paid. The end price from the 2 sources I listed above works out to $478-$485 so you didn't pay that much extra.
I am really wondering about the Buy.com Canada though, and if it's even legit that they are "getting stock". I tried contacting their customer support to ask the question of when they will receive stock, and I got a delivery failure on the email address! That doesn't look good.
I might be a little idealistic... but shouldn't the manufacturer be offering a bit of a competitive price on these things? They're the most expensive option...
I'm pretty sure there's a legal reason behind it; something about anti-dumping legislation, perhaps. Not to mention the fact that undercutting your own retailers is a great way to lose retailers
Sure hope those developer codes are activated soon - tomorrow is the last possible day for Nokia Canada orders to be shipped in time for Christmas (according to their site). Maybe I should plan for a Happy New Year instead???
I bought my N800 through Expansys.ca in early November with no problems. They ship out of the Mobile Planet warehouse in Bloomington Illinois. It arrived in 4 days.
You are legally buying from their Canadian office in Mississauga so you will pay GST and PST. Shipping was 14.95 via UPS. No brokerage fees (Been there with UPS, not pretty). Price varies with the strength of the Loonie but that week I paid CDN$241.00.
Last week I bought a Dell bluetooth keyboard and Case Logic portable Hard Drive case as a N800 case (saw that mentioned on another post) again from Expansys.ca. Four day delivery in the December rush! not bad.
Only downside I can see is that Nokia Canada probably regard the unit as grey market and will not honour the warranty is I have a problem. I took that risk. BTW has anyone ever seen Nokia tablets for sale in Canada except from the Nokia website?
