What's the safe ranges for input voltage and input amperage?

I just got a charger (for use as a car charger) that's 6V and 450mA ... is that going to be too much for my N800? (will it be too much for my N810? what about my Nokia 2865i?)

I typed "charger voltage range" into the search box and got this :

Sorry for being rude.

Sorry for being rude.

That wasn't a rude response at all. Straight, to the point, no patronizing, nor insults.

Though, neither of the resulting threads completely answered my question (the first one implies that the 770 can take up to 12V, but it didn't seem to be conclusively stated, and that's the 770, not the N800 ... nor N810).

The 770 and N800 share the same batteries and chargers, so I'd guess that goes for both. The N810 battery has a different form factor but the same capacity, I'd also guess the electronics are the same, as it's much like the N800 inside.

Anyway, for the past two years I've been charging both my tablets and both my Nokia phones with whatever was at hand : original Nokia chargers, cheap noname travel charger, cheap noname mains-to-USB converter, car lighter plug... with no problems to date. IMHO the charge regulators in the Nokias are pretty sturdy. More so than the Sharp Zaurus PDAs for example, which were quite fragile in that respect.

PS: what I really meant was that I got that not-so-old, informative thread on the first try, searching with the first keywords that came to mind. Who knows, maybe if I'd tried a couple more times with different words I'd have hit other, older threads with still more info ? Did you ?

I did not do a search, no. I don't consider it to be rude to "not search". Being observant and paying attention are acceptable substitutes for searches, IMO. I hadn't seen the topic come up on the N800 nor N810 parts of the forums, so I asked.

If it had been a frequent topic, and I hadn't seen it, then it might be rude as an indication that I hadn't been doing any investigation/paying-attention at all, not because I hadn't specifically done a search.

Rudeness-or-not debate aside, I was just saying that if you really joined this September (and hadn't been lurking for ages before :-), there are two years' worth of threads you'll never have seen the titles of by following active topics. Some of that info, even if it predates the creation of the N800/N810 forums, might be totally relevant to the question you have today, and you can only dig that up from the past through searching, often in several different ways.

Personally, I consider it very rude to start a new thread without doing a search first. So if by "not rude" you mean that you won't offend people, you're wrong.

I tried to use the same car charger that I use for my Nokia cell phone on my N800 but it just says "Not Charging". I'm unsure what the input current is on this car charger but the eBay seller lists is as compatible with Nokia N800. Perhaps it would work if my N800 was comletely discharged but I tested it when it was about 70% charged.

I'd appreciate any recommendation for a good N800 car charger.
