Using N800 OS2008
I've found a thread that suggest instaling it from here a so i've been trying to do:

the link: https://garage.maemo.org/projects/zip-unzip/

but..
for the unzip: https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_...elease_id=1215

I could install the first pink file only. the second could be saved ar the documents library and the third one refused to be installed

the same thing occured with zip:
https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_...release_id=462

what can be done about it and how exactly to install it
Sorru i'm not a linux man yet,,, (just a lay one)

thanks

The only file you should be downloading/installing is the *_armel.deb file for your current operating system. The other files are the code source (tar.gz) and the install for an i386 machine (Linux).

You can also try this for zipping/unzipping:

Your current os2008 is called Chinook. You'll notice the zip armel.deb is for Bora (os2007). You can still try it; it may or may not work under os2008.

To install: Download and save the armel.deb file. Then Settings>Application Manager. From the App Manager main dropdown menu, select Application>Install from file and point it to your saved download.

Oh, yeah, sorry, I meant to link to this rather than the p7zip app:

Hey Guys,

New to this linux terminal stuff. I followed your directions above and I got the p7zip file loaded and activated into the terminal. Can someone please explain step by step or point me to step by step guide here or somewhere else on how I get a zip file loaded and unzipped. lol

You should check 'squishee' for a gui (in Tim's message you can find the link).

If you'd like to learn more about the terminal, an excellent guide can be found here: http://www.linuxcommand.org/learning_the_shell.php

In general, if you need to see how a command can be used search for it in google or similar. For example 'unzip linux' offers this as a first result:
http://linux.about.com/od/commands/l/blcmdl1_unzip.htm

I do this all the time as I have a very short memory for such stuff!!

Saturn and others who commented,

Thanks.

I was able to successfully download python apps after removing 'i' from download name as other post recommended and squishee loaded easily.

If this tablet is to grow it must become user friendly. Most people like me just don't have the time to spend hours reading many threads to load an app.

After a week of reading and loading apps I now have a very powerful and useful piece of hardware. It will be a year before I get another week off and I will not be spending it loading apps. I'll pay someone to do it. lol
