Ditto. I have a D-Link DGL-4300 and a DGL-4500 at home. Both work perfectly with my N810. At home the range is incredible! I'm able to walk maybe 100yds outside the house and still use skype and I have at least a 50% signal anywhere in the house. I know those microscopic radio waves are eating away at my brain but oh well.

Slightly off subject, I picked up a Netgear Dualband N adapter for a laptop I use for playing back upnp on the downstairs HDTV and I'm getting max 300mbps in mixed mode (2.4Ghz B/G/N) without cutting the speeds in half like other N routers do.

Tested at work today. Same signal quality but when I open the browser web pages actually pop up rather than the flashing bar sitting there saying connecting forever. Really strange. Might have to get another router and set it up at home to see if it makes a difference.

Spidubic, there's a thread somewhere here explaining the variables that can affect router performance. A critical one is the layout and materials used in your home. Both can deflect, distort and mute signals. Try placement options before buying another router.

Interference is a critical issue as well.

Router is working fine wirelessly with my wife's notebook, my notebook, Sony Vaio UMPC, Ipod Touch. They all hook up and work great. The touch for such a small device works fantastically. Only issue is with the N800. But it works fine at work.

I'm using a Netgear WG102 and a Netgear FWG114P with my Nokia 770, and never had any problems.

Regarding Netgear: I was reported by many people that's only the (cheaper) "grey" stuff from Netgear which could make trouble, the (more expensive) "blue" ones are fine. I don't have any own experience with the "grey" routers from them, so I can't comment that. (The WG102 and FWG114P are of the "blue" product line.)

Netgear RangeMax *may* be off the hook (see my previous post in this thread).

Today the power supply on my ActionTEC router (from Verizon) went out, after weeks of intermittent issues. The previous ActionTEC I had also went bad, along with 2 Netgear RangeMax routers.

When I went to pull the ActionTEC transformer off the UPS, it was VERY HOT. Curious (and in the middle of an online meeting I needed to attend) I tried a compatible transformer from another device. The ActionTEC came back on, and was working well after startup, but within minutes the other transformer was equally hot and starting to fail.

I am now starting to suspect a problem in my Minuteman UPS. It would make sense: it's the common denominator in all of this. Stupid me, I should have realized that months ago.

So today I will purchase another UPS and give that a try. I've been meaning to get one with one more backed-up outlet anyway.

I got several MinuteMan UPS devices cheap at a radio Shack outlet store, and I'm starting to suspect why. One other I got has been occasionally flaky. Maybe time to cut Netgear some slack and blame Minuteman...

really good UPSs produce a clean sinusoidal waveform, really cheap ones a square-wave, and intermediate ones some form of pseudo sine wave as a stepped square-wave - the more steps the closer to a sine-wave.

some equipment is quite happy to take non-sine-wave power if a switched-mode PSU with high frequency conversion, others not at all.

so, it's quite possible that your minuteman units are both faulty and produce a nasty mains output which hammers the attached devices, but might permanently damage their input stages.

I bought a new APC backup unit today; hopefully it will be better. But now I have no usable transformers for my 2 working routers (Dlink transformer took a hike some time back... no sign of it). I have been looking for a universal AC/DC converter that can drive ~3V at 2 amps, but highest I've found locally is .5 amps...

Good news: picked up a power adapter at Fry's that has multiple standard voltages and provides 2.5 amps. The Linksys WRT54GC asks for 3.3V @ 2amp but 3V @2.5 amps using this power adapter works perfectly; I ran it all night and so far into today no issues. So there's an option for anyone who finds themself in the same boat. It's probably a good idea to stock up on 3 or 4 of these multivoltage adapters at various amperages... I now have 3 (2.5 amp, 300mA, 500mA).

The Linksys required a firmware upgrade to work with FIOS but the latest one worked perfectly.

So no more using my N75 as a 115kpbs modem!

EDIT: Netgear has a new mimo router out and it's on sale. If Buffalo doesn't get their stuff together with these legal issues, I may have to give up on them and go back to netgear, now that I'm sure the problems were caused by my UPS...

Looks like I gotta retract my retraction-- partially.

Turns out the Netgear RangeMax Next (my router) did indeed have a premature death defect. One reader reported to Maximum PC that he went through 3 in short order (I went through 2 in a little over a year combined). Netgear has reportedly identified and corrected the circuit design flaw responsible.

They have a sweet newer version out, which is tempting... but I really do wanna try a Buffalo FON solution... : /
