Recently returned from a trip to HK and China. Have big problems in locating wifi to get onto the internet.

In HK, i bought a 30 day pass PCCW, which is by far the biggest wifi vendor, $20 for 30 days, not too bad. It has access point in major buildings/airport and phone booth and seven-eleven. I think the arrangement is quite acceptable. Especially the seven-elevan stores are so numerous and close, most of the time, even riding on a bus, I can get on inet!

Question, my next trip is going to be totally in China, do we have something similar in China? I mean, whatever the PCCW China equivalent?

Finally, the PCCW is fine, but I still like to tether the tablet to a phone, which I can use anytime I want. What is the best phone to tether to the tablet in China only? use in China and HK? use in China, HK and US? I am using Treo 650 in US and works very well with the tablet. I was so surprise to find a Treo 650 in HK, which can take sim card! The Treo 650 I am using in US does NOT take sim card. Umm, the same model but different product. Has anybody had experience that the HK Treo 650 will work in China/HK with sim card and US?

During my last short trip to HK, I was recommended a Malaysian phone called wellcome 810/830/900? takes sim card and usable in china/hk, not sure about US. I tried to tether with the tablet right at the store for about 5 min, it apparantly able to make call via the tablet, then I was almost deserted by my teams.
That phone was about US$140.

thanks for any suggestions,

bun

Previous post is 2 long, or 3 long, how about a down to earth question: how do you get wifi/internet in China if you are NOT in your hotel?

TIA,
