so why not just use a small mini-itx or other cheap device to do it. it will allow you to specify whatever you would like? Also i would think the custom firmware available for the linksys wrt4g would work.

I have two wireless networks.

One with wpa aes encryption for my personal usage.

The other one without encryption, which can be used by everybody around here who needs wireless internet access.
The traffic of the unencrypted network is routed through Tor and has lowest QOS priority though, to avoid getting in trouble in case somebody does something stupid / illegal via my internet connection and to ensure that there is always sufficient bandwith left for me.

same with me.

and it would be against my isp terms of use, to allow other to use my connection.

Mine is unfortunately WEP, because the Billion unit won't do WDS in WPA mode, so it's as good as open, with tools like aircrack-ptw...

I was running wep and just letting the N810 sit idle here. Suddenly i heard a system sound indicating connection lost. So I ran kismet on the 770 and found someone in the neighborhood was doing a deauth flood. So the N810 saved my network privacy today!

Now what would have been really fun is getting a usb wifi with external directional antenna and drivers working on the 770, then walking around and finding the culprit

What to do now, i'm not sure... possibly a hostap mode, or usb networking. Don't really need wlan at all.

Locked down, wpa-psk, on it's own subnet. It is broadcasting and not doing the mac filtering, as both of those things are useless and slow down the connection. Once I get moved it's moving over to a radius authentication system. It sounds like overkill, but my wife runs an accounting business from home. The wired and wireless are separate all the way to the firewall. That box however does connect to both networks. Besides, it's against the tos of my (and most us) isp to share my connection.

Mine is WEP 64bit I know that's abolutly insceure but there are Wifis without any encrytion all around so anyone willing to stea; bandwith will probably go with them.
Btw, is there a simple way to check for computers connecting to my network on the n800?
I have no samba shares running unless my laptop is turned on.

Turn on logging on your access point.

pretty unsecre WEP 64bit, but there are three completely open networks in my neighborhood that should distract free-surfer.

wouldn't mind sharing my signal if I would know the people.
