So I'm new to OS2008 and apparently you kind of "subscribe" to lists of apps by adding Repositories to the Application Catalog in the Application Manager. Now I'm just trying to get myself sorted out here. I have downloaded some applications which have added Repositories by themselves and now it seems like I have duplicates of many, here is my list doubles are sic.
  • Nokia catalog
  • Nokia catalog (3rd party software)
  • Nokia System Software Updates
  • maemo Extras
  • maemo
  • maemo Extras
  • maemo
  • Modest Package Repository
  • Chinook Extras
  • Pidgin N800 LED plugin @ maemo.kabber.dk
  • Gizmo Catalogue
  • Maemo Hackers
  • Browser Extras
  • RTComm Beta
  • Collabora catalogue
  • maemo Extras
  • maemo Extras
Phew... now that we are done, what the heck is the deal with all the maemo Extras? And why isn't "maemo" capitalized but "Extras "is! Some of these are self explanatory, but what can I remove? Right now my Installable Application List is a mess and I wish I could get it under control.

Whats more annoying is probably that I have to scroll through the list and manually look for new apps that have poped up, there can't just be a "new" indicator, or even a sort by date option.

And can someone please explain "Components: Free/Non-free" I'm, not sure what that means.

Because "maemo" isn't capitalized. Look at maemo.org, the correct way to write is with a lowercase m. There are different Extras in there because some of them are for Chinook and some for Bora, but it does look like you have some duplicates (which really isn't that big of a deal).

Components in this case refers to the type of application. On maemo.org, these are sorted into free and non-free applications. It's really not anything you need to worry about.
