I have read this forum extensively and have seen mentioned a possible solution to using owa on the 770 by installing a proxy server because of a limitation of the opera browser. Since that is too hard for me to do (requires linux programing), I pondered any other possible solution. The one thing I tried was installing and running the other browser that is available on the mameo site (called something like GTE - mini). OWA did not work in that browser either. I was just wondering why it won't work in either of the browsers. I thought the problem was with opera? Can anyone explain the source of this issue. Thanks.

The problem boils down to (the many different versions of) OWA being written by Microsoft for Internet Explorer. The version we've got at work as part of our Exchange server is entirely non-standard HTML, and it working in any browser is either a success of luck over intent, or Firefox being written to handle such backwards sites.

Now, that doesn't help with your solution of course. It's possible Manaos - the Mozilla-based Maemo browser - would work, but I've not tried that myself.

Have you got a reference to the proxy server suggestion? The only way that'd work, AFAIK, would be to rewrite the invalid HTML into something approaching a standard.

Cheers,

Andrew

I tried to load that mozilla bowser too, but it would not install on my device and it says it is unstable. I guess i will try to load it again.

Regardless of whether or not the mozilla browser works, thanks very much for taking the time to reply to my post.

I really love the 770's hardware, but teh software is a killer for an average consumer who has lived with windows for 15 years or so.

Has anyone tried to change the UserAgent in the opera.ini (i think) file? IIRC - the 770's opera browser spoofs the IE UserAgent string (except for adding the word Opera at the end) and this may be confusing the owa web server in to sending you the heavyweight page instead of the lighter one that I have seen.

There is also another option for a _very_ stripped down version of owa that is intended for mobile phones. If it's enabled at your company (it is at mine specifically by my request) then you should be able to hit the oma (Outlook Mobile Access) subdirectory to log into it. (Ex: http://mail.servername.com/oma )

Good luck.

Thanks again for the suggestions, but, unfortunately, the mozila browser does not install on my 770. If I try to install the application, the 770 reports an error saying something like the componant is already installed???

I will look into the mobile version of outlook.

If changing the opera .ini works that would be great, but how does one change that file.

The "Component is already installed" is because the original debs produced were not compatible with the Application Installer: why, I've no idea since it's trivial to do so.

I thought updated debs had been produced which were compatible, but I've not tried, TBH.

Cheers,

Andrew

I took a peek at that UI just now... it brings new meaning to "minimalist". :-)
